Yes, Slinky. Me-thinks somebody has their spring stretched a bit too far.

Ok, since this has become such a large discussion I will clarify a few points.

Yes my manager was fully aware of my posting here, did she review my posts? Not until recently, after she was alerted by her boss that someone had emailed my work place and suggested to them that due to the information contained in some of my posts here and my position that I was on the verge of dispensing Medical advice. Herself and and 2 sleep Docs (Along with others above her I'm sure), reviewed my posts and came to the conclusion that my posts did not fall into this catagory. However they agreed (Along with others above them) that to the uneducated it may seem that I am stepping a legal boundary. We ALL had a meeting and I recommended that I would stop posting here to stave off any legal (The emails did not threaten legal action or anything even remotely similar) actions or defamation to the facility that I work for.

In NO way am I offended by any post that anyone made here in any of my posts. I have a VERY thick skin, so try as the trolls may, they will most likely not offend me

Most of you are correct I had put too much info about myself and my job out there to the masses. What I said in my first post was "This could possibly affect my job", would I loose my job? No However it has already affected my job, but more importantly it has affected my patients, and that is really what chaps my a**. Another Tech (Not an RT), had to do 2 of my CPAP setups while I was in these meetings.

So thank all of you who have posted your support both on this thread and in IM's.

Remember "Old Rangers never really go away, they just fade into the shadows quietly"

Last night after I posted that I will miss akcpapguy's posts, SNOREDOG rudely stated horrible things to acpapguy and I was defending him(akcpapguy)...How even ruder that he deleted his posts to make me the bad guy!
One of his posts basically stated that he would not miss akcpapguy and told me directly "well cry me a river" he also asked me why I hide in a closet. He was rude and offended me terribly!! Then had to hide in a closet himself so all his loyal post readers would not see that he does not have anything better to do than belittle and intimidate us.
I take it to heart that you all think I am accusing akcapapguy of anything....

If there was a post between your two posts lmmo then there were 2 posts by the same forum member (who you named) trashing DME's last night which were deleted.

I saw a rather long and nasty one (after RG's post) before I signed off my computer at 11:52 Pacific time. Your first post was shortly after that.

yes, you are right, there were 2 posts one before my first and one between mine...

Lmmo,

There was obviously something missing!

I, for one, am glad that you post. I am here to learn. I never know what info I might actually remember and be able to use to help someone else.

There should be a way, when someone deletes a post they made, for a dialog box to say 'post deleted by____________'. Some of us don't need this, but obviously some do.

Please continue to post, try to ignore the trouble makers, most of us know that you are here to learn and help others.

Hey! Did you know that the "Delete Spam" button up there works equally well on those belittling, uncalled-for personal attacks?

The Battle of Armageddon needs to start someplace, and this is as good as any.

The question continues to be, "What level of sophistication (or maturity) should the Forum take on?"

Personally, I don't think I can tolerate the huge dichotomy any more, ranging from the discussions of loop gain and patent analysis, to behavior that I absolutely wouldn't (and didn't) tolerate in a 4-year old. And that oft-used excuse "But that's what makes this board so great!" is nonsense. Ellen had a great line, "It's only a joke if everybody laughs."

Soooo.....
StillAnotherGuest wrote:And THEN what are you prepared to do?
The nonsense exists only because people allow it to exist. When people stop allowing it to exist, it will die. But it order to make it stop, it's going to take commitment, and more than a few people need to make some decisions. In the words of the great philosopher, Spock, in The Wrath of Khan:
It is logical. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
Sean Connery had so many great lines in The Untouchables, including
Well the Lord hates a coward. Do you know what a blood oath is Mr. Ness?
and
Oh what the hell? You gotta die of something.
And no, none of those are any of the other 4 quotes.

...and although another of the quotes on "SAG's Rules To Live By" is from Tom Hanks as Captain John H. Miller in Saving Private Ryan, they're not all blood and gore.

Number One on the list is from Bono:
It's a Beautiful Day. Don't Let It Get Away.

Yes, but if the forum administrators decide that what you deleted is in fact not spam, then they'll reinstate the post and revoke your delete spam button.

So, back to "we need a moderator" OR "we need the forum admins to give us permission to spam the personal attacks."

The only way to police this kind of stuff is to have, well, police.

The best response to Flames and Flamers is to totally IGNORE them. Just skip past their flaming post as if it didn't even exist, don't reply to it or comment on it or in anyway even acknowledge that it exists or that they even made a post.

Alternatives

There is, of course, one other alternative that has not been mentioned here: "JUST CHANGE THE CHANNEL!!!" That is what I've chosen to do, and I've drastically curtailed my visits here, though I do try to check in from time to time, and respond when I see an instance when I believe that I might be able to offer something of help to someone.

I am frankly weary of the viciousness and rudeness of some posts here. Though I try to keep in mind that I need to be understanding of those with disabilities, such as brain damage, I am just worn out.

Though I fear that my leaving, and others being driven out as well, is an intended consequence of certain individual here, I've learned through the lessons of history that there is no dishonor in strategic retreat.

Yes the preschool playground arena needs to stop not just on the forum but in chat too. Someone really needs to log chat and warn a few there.

My understanding - someone can feel free to correct me if I am wrong - no offense will be taken on this end if I am wrong

you delete someone else's post as spam you might lose your privileges

you delete your own post as spam you don't lose a blasted thing
and you can keep deleting all your posts forever

Therefore you can blast anyone and everyone all you want but clean up the evidence shortly after flaming them.

Well, if for some reason you want to respond to a flaming post, then all you have to do is click on the "quote" button and respond. Then if the original post gets deleted, it still appears in the responding post.

But why would you even want to respond in the first place?

Also, in defense of the flaming poster: maybe the person realized that he went too far (as we all can be prone to doing), and wanted to delete the post. Kinda like a silent apology.
