On thursday 24th in the Sydney Morning Herald science section there should be an article on cpap based on a study done at the RNSH Sleep Studies clinic. The study run in 2005 looked at 100 folk who were about to go on cpap, with 50 of the people the RNSH sleep clinic ran classes on 2 week-ends including partners, on what cpap was all about & how to deal with the cpap gear.
50 people were left to get their machine & figure it out for themselves (the normal approach).
The study eventually showed that approx (IIRC) 48% of the people who didn't get education, stayed with cpap whereas among those that did get education the success rate after a year was about 80% (I should have a copy of the report later today so will add the actual figures).
If the article doesn't appear in tomorrow's SMH Science section, it should appear the following week but from what I understand the article will be there tomorrow.
Self participated in the study among the people who got the 2 days training.
