Rabid: there is just a bit of that pumping. I think it is much less than on the Activa, although I have never really liked or used that thing much. I am looking at both masks in my hand right now, and I think that the similarity between them is overstated. The Quattro lacks the entire "accordian" thing that makes the Activa so different. The Quattro looks like a regular mask with inner and outer flaps. More like a UMFF or CF2 than an Activa. I am having to force myself to avoid anatomical analogies, but you know what I mean. Don't start.

Snoredog: I know where you are on my pressures, but I swear I have conducted pretty well-controlled tests, and settings any lower give me higher AHI's on a given night. I know my graphs sometimes suggest a lower pressure, but I think that's an artifact of having fewer data points at the higher pressures. It doesn't feel like that much pressure to me: I don't even ramp, and found that I get lower AHI's with BiFlex on 1 or even turned off.

But back to your question: I'll keep you posted. If the one night's experience continues, it appears to give me the performance of a CF2 (and I have at least a half dozen 0.0 AHI's with that mask), with the comfort and build quality of the UMFF, and maybe the comfort of the 431/432. The problem with those, as I've said, is that although comfortable, my AHI goes from say 0.1 or 0.3 to 2.0 or worse. I can feel the difference the next day.

It's a pretty thing, too. Damn, now I have really gone over the mask whore edge, sitting here admiring a mask. Why can't Respironics make a mask of this build quality? Looking at the Liberty versus the Hybrid, it must not be patent related ...

One question I'll ask here, and then my vendor, and Resmed, is in addition to the obvious vent holes on the area over the nose, there is a single vent hole on the bottom edge under where your lips are. I take it this is normal. Can anyone with a Quattro in hand look at theirs and reply? Thanks.

I forgot: the street price appears to be $209, with free shipping. You can probably pay more, but I bet Resmed enforces that minimum price.

Loudness: I think it's pretty quiet, but I don't pay much attention to that, because I'm typically asleep when I'm using it (no duh), and my wife started wearing ear plugs years before I got treated (also no duh), and still prefers them, even though I can document a Snore Index of pretty near zero. So I'm not the one to ask about loudness. Never have really understood why anyone cared, within reason, but then I've literally slept through two tornadoes and a hurricane.

The holes are for Oxygen Input. My R/T said most add through a inline adapter, but that is what it is for.

I am still loving this mask.

Chuck...........pass me another glass of olives...........please!

Martini Lover (or any Quattro owner):

You refer to the Ports Cap. I'm talking about a gap between the Ports Cap and the Cushion Clip. Would you look and see if you have a gap between those parts. It looks intentional, but I'm curious.

There's a diagram at http://www.myresmed.com/Shared/StaticFi ... s-card.pdf

Thanks.

I've had a look - are you sure it's not an optical illusion from the way the plastic curves? At first sight it looked like a gap to me as well... but there doesn't appear to be one? Not sure if that's what you mean... what shape is the gap?

You are right. It's an optical illusion. My bad. It sure looked like a gap until I poked a blunt instrument down there.

So, it'd be like............ALL night long? I'd like the Cindy Crawford autographed model please.

Rabid, I told you not to start with that. We already have a fart thread going here, and the newbies are going to think we are an unrefined bunch

I've got three nights results with the Quattro, and you can view them at the link below.

May 9-12 are the Quattro. Last night I used a Rested Gal strap to bring the leak rate down to an average 48. AHI was 0.3, but that was 0.2 OAI and 0.1 HI. I know, the xPAP world is not shedding tears for me, but I prefer residual events to be H's rather than O's.

May 8 was the HC432, and generally a bad night for extraneous reasons, as was the 9th.

May 4-7 was the CF2, with no RG strap. No apneas. The 0.0 on April 20 was also the CF2.

So this is not much data, but so far I like the Quattro, and will rotate it with the 431, 432, and UMFF, but the CF2 looks like it will remain my default mask. It appears that the Quattro can produce similar (or slightly higher) AHI's, but shifts the ratio from hypopnea to apnea. I still can't figure out why I would have a better response to the not very comfortable CF2: any mask experts feel free to speculate.

Maybe you need a couple of weeks to really judge it's effect. By the way...what pressure do you use?

I'll be using the Quattro for three nights or so in a row regularly. Tonight I'll try the CF2 to see if the difference persists.

I'm not knocking the Quattro: I expect it will be the mask of choice for many people.

My set pressure is 15/19.5. My 90% pressures for the past 15 days are 15/18.5.

New ResMed masks blow air onto partner

Watch the new masks from ResMed guys! I have the Ultra, S8 Spirit and humidifier and they're great. I find the Ultra a bit too clumsy, so I’m looking for a replacement.

After all the waiting, spin and hype about their new masks, I tried the Quattro and Liberty recently. Sure they're quiet and comfortable, but both failed to impress my partner, because they blow air straight into her face! The Ultra blows exhausted air up and away, which doesn't bother her, or me, at all, whereas the Quattro blows ahead and slightly up, directly into her face, and the Liberty blows from both sides forward. This makes both useless to me.

Such a basic design flaw shows me that they haven't trialed these products, or, if they did, they ignored the results. ResMed's quality and development are very good, but they fail to market what we want.

Anyone care to give us an update on their ongoing experience with the Quattro mask?

Rooster,

I got my first Quattro replaced after trying two new elbows. It leaked badly, several CFM comparing its leak rate with the second Quattro.

The second one had a minor positional hiss at the elbow, but I thought it acceptable. However, last night the elbow came off altogether while I was asleep. My wife asked me today, "What was up with that mask last night?", and I told her she probably heard a leak, and the pressure transducer trying to compensate. She's asked me not to use it again until I try the Teflon tape kludge.

I've revisited the UMFF and found it about as comfortable as the Quattro. I'm going to continue to work with the Quattro, because these are surely design or manufacturing defects that wil be fixed. The UMFF elbow has never come off on me, or leaked, so I know they can do it. I may write the thing off as another early-adopter mistake. We'll see.

I'm still rotating it with the CF2, UMFF, and HC432.

I've used the quattro for about 7 weeks now.
General impression = I like it a lot (I will qualify that by saying I've only tried 1 other FFM (F&P HC 432)).

Likes:
1.Typical 95% leak rate for me is between 0 and 0.2 L/s. I did have to implement the teflon tape fix, though.
2.Im a side sleeper and it still works! I can almost make it work on my stomach.
3. As long as there is nothing in front of the vents, it's very quiet.

Dislikes

1, Forehead pad was a little to thin for me. Padacheeks solved that, though.
2. The adjustable forehead thing doesn't do much for me, except get in the way. It would be nice if the knob was removable once you set it correctly.
3. If anything gets within about 8 inches of the vent, it's very noisy.
4. the headgear is about 3/4 inch too tall for me - the bottom strap rides on my neck, making the seal just a little harder to maintain.

Just one opinion, but you know what they say about opinions....
