I contacted my local DME in Bathurst Australia as soon as I read this post to make sure he knew, and he was already on top of it too.

I have not been on the list in a long time but I came across this post from Rested Gal and I am going home to check my machine.
Thanks RG, you were and still are a wealth of information and help.

[quote="Slinky"]If you went to the URL and followed it to the second URL it sounds like it isn't the machines themselves but rather the power cord that accompanied them.
If I'm understanding it correctly and that is the case, I sure hope the power cord isn't very expensive 'cause on accountta I can't remember when I set up my Vantage if I just used the Elite's power cord or if I pulled the Elite's power cord and packed it with the Elite and used the Vantage's power cord. *sigh*
I called the 888 number given and they had me verify my Vantage's serial number, confirmed it was subject to the recall and transferred me to a Recall Center - which didn't have all the pertinent information yet (I don't think she was even aware of the recall yet) and so will be calling me back with further information. (Naturally, since I have to go in town for at least a couple of hours for an appointment today and then tomorrow leave for KY for 5 days).
I know darn well my CPAP DME is NOT going to replace both cords!!! So I called my 02 DME. They weren't aware of the recall yet either BUT "if" it is the power cord, no problem, they will give me a power cord. So I'm to call them back as soon as I hear from Resmed's recall center - or if I haven't heard just stop in on my way to KY and pick one up then. I can't believe the difference between these two DMEs!!!!

Yep, found that out. Thanks for pointing it out just in case tho! According to my 02 DME they thought at first that it was "just" the power cord but upon further investigation found that it was a part in the unit itself.
I sure do have to give Resmed credit for voluntarily recalling all these units!!! It "ain't a gonna" be any too cheap for them! Given today's business climate in the US with Wall Street so often calling the shots I wonder how many American companies would have done the same?

Let's see...weighing what it could cost in lawsuits if a few houses burned down in the future with sleeping cpap users and their families in them, after the company had become aware there was a potential fire problem.... hmmm....I think most companies
would "voluntarily" scurry to get those machines out of peoples' homes.

Even tho I don't use that machine anymore, My 'rental' machine that I'm still paying for is on that list. Will be interesting to see if the dumbf*cks at the DME will bother to notify me. It would be a safe million dollar bet to say they Won't be notifying me!
just in case anyone is keeping track

My DME sent me a letter yesterday, and when I called they said they have to wait to get them in so will call me within the next four weeks to replace it. Nothing like being timely.

Three people that I know in my town were issued resmed S8 machines -- by three different home healthcare stores. I checked the serial numbers on them. Two are affected machines, one is ok. None of them have been notified by their DMEs yet. No one from the DME has checked their machines or asked them to look at the serial number; nor have the people been contacted to bring the machine in to have it checked.
Either resmed is not getting the word out well enough/fast enough to the DMEs who carry their machines, or some DMEs are not checking their customers' machines. My guess is it's DMEs who are dropping the ball.

Gee, I had my DME provider contact me by letter and telephone within at least 2 weeks of reading the information here.
I would say that not contacting people is a real liability case waiting to happen for the DME providers should they NOT notify us.
That said, they have not contacted me to say that there are some new machines in stock. I'll have to double check on that, but I do not think that my setup is defective, at any rate.
Considering the GoofyUT/Chuck has had his new machine for a while, although he changed brands, it does seem a bit sloooowwww for your friends to not have heard a THING!
I wonder how ResMed would react? Early on, I e-mailed the company about the humidifier and they answered me.
Best wishes, everyone with a ResMed.
