BiPAP Prescription, but need a travel unit....

Post by Mesa_John » Thu Sep 03, 2026 7:16 am

I am brand new here, but I need a little help and advice.

I just finished my Sleep Study, received my RX and contacted a company to purchase a BiPAP unit. On the RX, it specifically says.... "BiPAP". So when I ask the company, "Can I purchase two units, as I also need one of the tiny, small travel units?"

They said ..... NO

They said my prescription only allows me to purchase a BiPAP and I cannot purchase a CPAP.

I really want the little RESMED travel unit, as I travel on my Motorcycle a lot and I can't haul around a bigger unit.

Does anyone have any advice or wisdom to help me out?

Depending on your bilevel (bipap) machine settings it is probably unlikely that the tiny travel machines would be able to deliver your prescribed settings plus most of them don't offer much (if any) added humidification which could also be a potential problem.

They simply don't make tiny travel size bipaps. Unless you don't need humidification or very much pressure support (the difference between inhale and exhale) those tiny machines just can't do the job.

I have no choice.... I do some of my travel off a motorcycle and I need one of those tiny units. Either I have one of those or I have nothing.

Great news.

My Doc changed my prescription to... "BiPAP preferred, CPAP OK"

I just had to ask my Doc to change the RX.

that's good news! also, you have a very attuned doc. not sure the majority would do that.
