Does old paper tape get more sticky/harder to remove?

I tend to buy the Nexcare Gentle Paper First Aid Tape in packs of six. I've noticed in the past six months some problems. Tension blisters on one side of my mouth, or actual raw areas on the other, like the top layer of skin was pulled off. The tape seems difficult to peel off in the morning. I am having to put Aquafor (like Vaseline) on the areas before I put tape on to try to let them heal.

This happened in the Fall (don't recall exactly when), I think I was experimenting with one inch tape instead of my usual two inch, and I figured the smaller surface area put more stress on the skin when I pulled it off. Putting Aquafor on the blister spot and covering it with a little snip of gauze before putting the tape on let it heal, but it took a long time. I stopped protecting it after just five or six days when it wasn't pink anymore and the blisters came back. Had to protect it for several weeks before it could withstand the tape touching it again. But now it's back, along with peeled skin on the other side, despite using 2 inch wide tape this time.

Tension blisters are hard to find information on but I've read about them from users of KT Kinesiology Tape. Apparently the tape pulling sideways on the top layer of skin can cause it to be pulled away from skin layers beneath, causing blisters filled with fluid.

I don't remember paper tape being hard to remove in the past. I am wondering if maybe my tape is too old. Does the adhesive get stronger with age if the roll sits around too long? Or does the stickiness vary between batches so I got a real sticky batch?

The other possibility is my skin is getting thin as I get older, but I am only early 60's, no signs of skin sensitivity elsewhere.

I may buy a new pack of six tapes, or try going back to the blue sensitive skin tape, trouble is the blue tape is only one inch wide and saliva makes it fall off, so I find it difficult to use.

I don't use tape because of a beard I refuse to shave. what I found out, through a user here, is the use of fixodent on my lips. works a treat and is very easily removed.
