I’m new to cpap. I started about 2 months ago. I have had the philips dreamwear pillow(hated due to being noisy and leaking with higher pressures). I’ve had the F&P Eson 2, and the Brevida. Had leak issues with all of them, and discovered a chunk of it was mouth leak. I tried using a chin strap and its cut the leaks down dramatically but its extremely uncomfortable and leaves red marks on my face that lasts for hours. I have one more mask my DME will allow me to try for free, and my sleep tech is suggesting a full face mask. I have narrowed it down to the Fisher and Paykel Evora, and the Resmed F40. I’m a very active side sleeper who sleeps with a hand under the pillow kinda putting pressure on the mask so a secure seal is important.

From what I’ve read, the Evora tends to have the better seal but my concerns with it are the lack of a swivel or movement in the hose, as well as the lack of a diffuser to make it quieter and lessen airflow at the exhaust ports. From what I’ve seen in my research the evora has 5x greater airflow at the exhaust ports vs the f40. I also sleep with a blanket over my shoulders buried into my face and it seems like the ports on the evora would cause a lot of blowback into my face as it rebounds off the blankets.

My concerns with the f40 are the slightly less secure seal, probably due to the lack of a top of head adjustment point. Also the non removable foam filter from what I’ve read is a pain in the butt to clean and can build up mold and dirt over time.



I’ve done so much research and watched sooo many videos. Hoping to get some better insights via real users here on a forum with experience using these masks. Thanks for your time

Not sure what you mean by "non-removeable foam filter" but, if it's the foam in the elbow, here's my experience with the F30 elbow, that has non removeable foam:

I soak the elbow in a glass od denture cleaning solution for an hour or so.
I then rinse it thoroughly, and after that, light comes through the filter holes like it did when the mask was new.

I don't do that daily, nor weekly - and you'll have to find your own schedule. This is just to make you aware that there's no need to remove the foam in order to get it clean.

I've been using ResMed's masks for many years now - alternating between the P10 and the F30 (not the F40). I sleep on my side, frequently pull the covers over my head. No problem with blowback from either mask -- and believe me I know the impact of blowback from other masks I've used in the 20 years I've been on CPAP.
When using a pillows mask I have to mouth-tape. I also use the Bleep Eclipse. Sleep better with a pillows mask, my objective results are better - but sometime I need a break from taping, and alternate with a full face mask.

Planning to try the F40 next.

Bottom line:
ResMed masks are quiet, cleaning the foam in the filter is not a problem.

I can't say anything about the lack of top of head adjustment point in the FFM, since the F30 does have one, but I can say that the P10, which also has to no top of head adjustment point gains its stability from where / how you place the straps on your head.
Read and follow each masks usage instructions - and videos. They're very helpful in getting a good seal. And always attach the mask and test its fit when you're lying down. A seal achieved - or not achieved - when you're sitting is meaningless.

Worth noting

The F40 is not advised for those with med implants such as pacemakers or defibs....due to the magnets in the straps.

Resmed sent out a precautionary notice to providers apparently and I was told by a providor. I went with the Evora.

ResMed-Notifies-Customers-About-Updated-Instructions-and-Labeling-for-Masks-with-Magnets

A patient is contraindicated where they, or anyone in close physical contact while using the mask, have the following:

Active medical implants that interact with magnets (i.e., pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD), neurostimulators, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunts, insulin/infusion pumps).
Metallic implants/objects containing ferromagnetic material (i.e., aneurysm clips/flow disruption devices, embolic coils, stents, valves, electrodes, implants to restore hearing or balance with implanted magnets, ocular implants, metallic splinters in the eye).
Patients using the masks with magnets or anyone in close physical contact with mask magnets should keep the magnets at a safe distance of 6 inches (150 mm) away from implants or medical devices that may be adversely impacted by magnetic interference. Refer to the ResMed Magnet Update website for more information about the updates issued to contraindications and warning labels.

I just discontinued using the Resmed F40. It was comfortable and lightweight, but I found it wasn't great a high pressures. I have a high pressure average of 16, and I would wake up every night with the mask almost blowing off my face.
