What Would You Do If You Had To Go Without CPAP For 48 - 120 Hours?
What Would You Do If You Had To Go Without CPAP For 48 - 120 Hours?
Hi due to chronic sinus problems I am scheduled for Endoscopic Septoplasty & Bilateral Turbinate Reduction on Friday. My instructions are no cpap for 120 hours following, 48 hours at the absolute minimum. The Dr. says they have many cpap patients and they do fine. My recent experience when there was a power outage and I went without one night, It took 3 days for me to recover enough to go back to work! I feel like I will be really, really suffering through this. I take ambien. I am told to sit up at night, any other ideas will be greatly appreciated?

I’d suck it up and carry on. YMMV.

I had ear surgery a few years ago and my doc suggested that I not use my CPAP for 6 weeks. I followed his recommendation and lived to tell the tale. No problemo.

Thank you. I feel better prepared for this. See my other post about using full face mask. I will update there on my progress. A great new year to everyone!

Sorry to hear that…that or at my age of 73 thought it could cause a heart attack! ENTs as good as they may be at what they do don’t seem to fathum sleep apnea but who does if you haven’t been there. I decided I’m better off not sleeping than trying to sleep without cpap. So I’m just dosing for an hour at a time the best I can!

Then I guess I'd go without CPAP for 48 to 120 hours. What Would You Do If You Had To Go Without CPAP For 48 - 120 Hours?
But I personally would still want any REM and deep sleep I could get--for maintenance of any possible remaining sanity. Therefore, I would sleep in a recliner that was not fully reclined, would put something behind (or, possibly, around) my neck to keep my neck in as neutral a position as possible, and would not eat within four hours of sleeping during those days. But I would try to sleep all night if I could, especially if I needed to heal from a surgery. Hey, just me.
Going without PAP for a few days is very dangerous for some and not very dangerous at all for others. Most of us fall somewhere between the extremes.
It is good when a sleep doc's office is willing to give its two cents on such questions over the phone based on your specifically diagnosed apneic condition, overall present health situation, and health history.
I mean, that's the least they can do. And never let it be said that a sleep doc's office didn't do the very least it could do.
I hope it goes/went well for you.
