Why’s AirSense 10 spewing white flakes, out of the blue left air exhaust?

Post by antinatalism » Sat Nov 23, 2024 5:26 pm

1. What’s the official term for the blue Left Air Outlet (left photo below)?

Monthly, I replace filter — it remains clean and white. Daily, I clean water chamber with vinegar, then refill with distilled water.

When I woke up, I saw white flakes in the water chamber (right photo). I dumped the water, again cleaned chamber, refilled with distilled water, and pushed in humidifier ― but when I turned on AirSense, I again saw these flakes in the water chamber!

So I pulled, and left, out the water chamber. When I turned on AirSense, I saw the Left Blue Outlet spurt out white flakes! But nothing in my bedroom changed ― last week, there weren’t these flakes!

2. Why’s AirSense spouting out these flakes? Where are these flakes from — inside the machine? What are these flakes — Buildup?

Are you using a room humidifier?

They generate white particles (mineral) from the water. Your ResMed is not generating it, it's blowing it through the system.

No - no room humidifier. But even if I use a room humidifier that generates mineral from water, wouldn't AirSense's hypoallergenic filter block those minerals from invading AirSense?

Every humidifier that I've ever seen states that the use of distilled, or similar, water is required for use.

No minerals do disperse into your air in that case.

How's the intake on the other side look? Under the filter?

I periodically take a moistened Qtip and clean the crap that builds up on the machine underneath the edges of the filter. Where some air seems to get past the edges a bit and leaves a bit of dust or something.

Humidifiers sold in areas where distilled water is an abundant consumer product do not state distilled only. So basically the bulk of non-north american markets.

And people selectively read instructions, and of those who do read instructions, they selectively follow instructions.

This problem has been reported a few times, and in most, room humidifiers have been the cause.

Squeaky clean! To everyone else — please don't go off topic. Pls forgo any discussion of a room humidifier.

So by everyone else, you mean me.

Humidifiers may no longer be *your* solution, but they are still relevant to the topic. Even though you created the topic, topics are for all members to potentially benefit from.

Pushy controlling people tend to shutdown suggestions. Good luck solving your problem

I would be concerned enough to consider replacing this unit, or at least looking into the motor chamber. What does your DME say?

What if smaller particles were getting through? Maybe use an inline bacteria filter and see if any get caught? Don't use the inline filter for long, just a test to see if particles get trough to the tubing.
I had to replace my Phillips DreamStation foam air chamber with a foamless one.

Did you read what I said? If folks don't read the instructions, who's fault is that? If they read but don't follow, who's fault is that?

Attempting to control/mandate the replies here, or anywhere, usually doesn't end well. Best to just filter out what pertains to you.

I didn't notice if you are using distilled water. If you are NOT and if you have hard water, the vinegar is possibly loosening it up but still leaving bits behind (like shower scale for example.)

Are you using only distilled?
If not, you should probably be doing so now.

Why didn't you carefully peruse? I wrote twice "refill with distilled water" and "refilled with distilled water".

You don't understand how people use forms.

Many don't "carefully fully", nor should they be expected to.

They see topics, maybe scan them, offer suggestions. You are the one asking for help, and your pushy, controlling crap, jsut takes away any incentive to try suggestions.

Enjoy your morning flakes.
