I woke up a few times last night, but was able to fall asleep rather quickly. More leaks, no chin strap used, but mouth tape was used. Sleeping on my sides. Sleep data pasted in the flow limits chart area and the sleep data key is in the bottom left
I am switching to a ResMed p10 nasal pillow mask. Anyone have tips on how to minimized irritation from the P10? Thanks in advance!

Lansinoh nipple cream, a product designed for nursing mothers to soothe breasts irritated by breast feeding.
You can find it in the baby aisle of most grocery stores and drug stores. It's made out of lanolin, so it won't hurt the silicon in the nasal pillows. And a little bit goes a long, long, long way towards soothing nostrils irritated by nasal pillows as well as preventing that irritation in the first place.
Also, make sure that you fit the mask correctly: It's only the tippy-tips of the cones that are supposed to be inside the nostril. Most of the cone rests along the outside of the nostril. A lot of people try to stuff too much of the cone up their nose. This results in both a lot of irritation and a lot of leaks because the pillows can't fully expand against the outside of the nostril to seal the nasal pillows.
And don't over tighten the mask: Nasal pillows masks are supposed to be fit rather loosely in terms of the headgear.

robysue1,
Thanks for the tips. I guess getting the knack of inserting just "tips of the cones" into the nostrils can be tough. I ordered the Lansinoh Lanolin Cream, so thanks again.

I'm puzzled that your device shows you in light sleep from the minute your head hits the pillow, and also that it shows no REM sleep at all during the first part of the night. I'd treat these read-outs with some skepticism if I were you.
Miss Emerita,
I may have downplayed your concern about the "no REM sleep at all during the first part of the night.", sorry. Maybe my arousals impacted my REM sleep? I can't figure this out myself. Even last night sleep has little Rem sleep in the first part of the night. Thanks again for reviewing and providing advice.

If you are switching to a nasal pillow. I might suggest the Resmed P30i. The P10 I used was great at not leaking. But the strap and the nose mounted hose input are it's weak spots.
The P10 strap just moves around far too easy when you move and makes for easier inadvertent mask removal. And cinching it down will just put a lot of pain inducing pressure on your nose. The nose mounted hose can cause you to awaken when you roll over as the hose can get wrapped around your neck/hand.
The top of head hose input on the P30i does not cause one to wind the hose around themselves. And the P30i frame and strap is very secure and you do not need much strap pressure to keep it sealed and in place.

It's *possible* that arousals are interfering with your getting REM sleep during the first part of the night, but my point was actually that I'd bet you *are* getting REM sleep then and your wearable just isn't showing it. Nothing but a sleep test with EEG capability could definitely identify your sleep stages.

super7pilot,
I already ordered the P10 and I have the N30 cradle already. I am just going to use the P10 and its frame system, not new head gear, since it is compatible with the better N30 head gear. I will keep the Resmed P30i in mind if I run into issues, thanks!
Miss Emerita,
Yeah I agree the EEG is needed to accurately measure the sleep stages, rats...

I thought the N30 & P10 use the same head gear strap setup? Anyway, Best of luck and I hope it works great for you.
Masks, the bane of PAP therapy.

super7pilot,
The P10 and the N30 can use the same head gear. maybe I didn't say it right. They use different "frames" that accept the cushion though. I wish they didn't.
