Treatment Emergent Central Apneas- Resolution?

Post by Zzzzzzzzzzz... » Fri Oct 25, 2024 7:48 am

Hi all!

Just starting on a Resmed AirSense 11 APAP.
Wondering if anyone without centrals or central apnea has seen a reduction (or complete cessation) of centrals after a few months?
According to my sleep doc, a high percentage of people have gotten used to the pressures and the problem
was solved over time. This is a general question. I know that there are many factors involved. Just want
to know if anyone has had success.

Thanks!

Z

A few Centrals can be ignored. They usually come from irratic breathing when you are just falling asleep or on the verge of getting up. If you consistantly get large numbers clumped together you should be concerned and see your doctor.

Yes, my CA index has gone down over time. I think some of this is due to my having fewer arousals during the night, and some is due to adaptation involving changes to my apneic threshold.

I have to add, though, that my CA index varies a lot from one night to the next. Last night it was 1.2, for some reason; usually it's around .4.

Have you seen an uptick in CAs since starting with the Airsense 11? What is your CA index now, and what was it before? Are you certain the settings on your new machine are the same as the settings on your old machine?

I just started on the machine. But I was made aware that there may be a higher number of centrals for a while.
Last night my AHI was 6.3. Four were CAs. I'll see how it goes... but so far I'm not that concerned.
Will get at least a week of data before I look at the Oscar data.

Thanks
