Low voltage/machine reset

Post by sleepinow » Sun Sep 01, 2024 12:13 am

My ASV Respironics machine keeps resetting when turning on. After a few attempts/resets it stays on. I tried switching power cords which had a difference appearance to the original and it turned on normally, however about 15 minutes in, the machine beeped and said low voltage. What should I do? Should I try buying a new OEM power cord?

The first thing that I'd do is try plugging the machine into a different outlet.

If the machine works normally from a different outlet, then you might have a bad outlet causing the problem. And in that case, the fix is to call an electrician to rewire the outlet rather than replace the cord.

If the machine previously worked OK on that outlet, try a different outlet,
on the off chance that the first outlet has recently "gotten sick."
An electrician may or may not be the solution.
If you have to replace the machine, it's a respironics--you can do way better.

I did try a new outlet in a different room and its the same result. The machine has 23,000 hours so it may be coming to an end. Luckily I have the upgraded Bipap ASV Advanced 960 machine as backup with only like 800 hours on it. I am going to have to remove the foam on this one like I did the other one but I'll do it in like a month.

I also have the Resmed Aircurve ASV 10 as another backup but I am hesitant in changing the machines because it felt very weird trying to sleep on it the first night. Like the breathing felt much different and I couldn't fall asleep. Hell it feels like ASVs are like a different ball game with adjusting to. I struggled so bad trying to get used to the an ASV for the first time.

In this case, I'd assume the machine has reached the end of it's life. And I would get a new one.

Yes, there are differences between the PR ASV algorithm an the Resmed ASV algorithm.

But if I were you, I'd try the Aircurve ASV 10 again. This time, I'd try real hard to figure out a way to describe exactly how the breathing feels different in words. If you can describe how the breathing feels different, then folks on the forum can tell you what kind of settings you might want to change (and how to change them). In particular, you may need to look at the Cycle, Trigger, Ti_Max, and Ti_min settings on the Resmed as well as the Respiratory Rate settings. But how these things might need to be changed from their default settings really requires figuring out how the breathing feels different (and annoying) to you when you are using the Resmed ASV instead of the PR ASV.
