I don't know enough about complicated rain-out issues to help.
well, what good are ya, then?

But, I just wanted to re-enforce, that you're missed when you're not posting.
you are too kind.

While I haven't totally submerged under the covers I have often had the covers covering my nose/mask and up to my eyeballs.
Worth trying.

In the meantime (while waiting for a return call from my friend) I did some strolling through some websites on ideas on how to prevent rain out. OMG some of those places are run by friggin idiots. One website (crapria) actually said to put the machine higher than the mattress so the water could better run back into the machine....WTF...don't these idiots read what they post.

BTW have you physically checked the heated hose air temp to confirm that it actually reaches the temp you selected for the heated hose? Like with a digital thermometer?? I have a digital cooking thermometer that has a long probe I could stick in the end of the heated hose that I think would work to check air temp if I was quick.

no, I haven't done that yet. my "reasoning" was that rainout happens on two machines. also, while i'm not connected to the hose, it seems to warm up enough to clear out the hose.

dunno what I would do if I couldn't get the hose cleared out while sleeping with the other one. give up sleeping altogether?

For what it is worth, I do sleep with my head under the covers a lot, particularly when my bedroom is cold.
I did that. and OMG it worked!

thank you ever so much. now, I just need to make some decisions on what temp and humidity combo will work best for me under the covers. it's been so long since I have had any humidity that i've forgotten what worked for me. and I definitely need humidity as I was a bit dry last night. also 86 is a bit too much with the hose right next to my skin.

anyhoo, I say it again, thanks a bunch!

and it worked for about three weeks, then slowly crept back up to full bore rainout. I have even recently bought a new heated hose, which made no difference.

do you (or any one else reading.) have any further suggestions?

thank you!

Part of tube is for sure exposed to your room temperature.
Do you know what your room temp was in July compared to now?
How about the pressure: Any change happening between then and now? I mean, is the machine's median pressure lower now than it was then (I don't mean "did you change it", I mean "did the machine change it")?

July temp would probably be closer to 68 overnight whereas now it's closer to 64.

I do not know If the machine changed the median pressure.

It's possible the drop in bedroom temperature could be aggravating the problem. Where is the rainout happening now? Close the machine? Or in the mask?

Get into Oscar and check your preferences. Under the CPAP tag select "median" for middle calculations. Then compare your median pressure for some data from July to your median pressure now.

again, thank you!

it starts, as near as I remember, in the short hose close to where it connects to the heated hose. then spreads slowly both ways.

i am unable to comply. under preferences, i choose the cpap tab. in that area, i see (among other things) median. this directly right of middle calculations. this area is greyed out in my version of oscar which is 1.1.1 if that makes a difference.

is there another way to get this information?

just fyi, I wrapped my hose(s) before bed last night. but I see I didn't get it all quite covered leaving a bit of space on the heated hose right where the hose connects to the machine. i'll adjust that tonight and see how it goes.

I also ran with a humidity level of three last night. I'll be sure to run at a humidity level of zero tonight.

last night was fully wrapped. (the hose that is. i'm always slightly unwrapped myself.) and humidity at zero and temp at 86, of course.

much improvement! not gone. there were still drops of moisture in the hose. however, it wasn't so soggy as to make me switch out to another house at four in the morning. that I can certainly live with. plus I didn't suffer from dry mouth. so that's good.

will eventually turn up the room heat, of course. it got down to 39 outside last night and I'm sure there is more of that nonsense on the way.

thank you ozij and robysue!

honestly I don't know. but i'll be happy to track it.

what's your line of reasoning here?

You've set your Humidity to 0, but still had water in the tank. Rain-out was reduced but still a potential problem.

Take the next step, no humidity. Washington is one of the more humid states. you may not need any humidity, and will therefore be contributing less moisture for potential rain-out.

A lot of people in much dryer places don't use water. Worth a shot. Remember is you do to turn humidity off.
