Best device settings is based on what the device knows, and only that.
Also important is how YOU feel.
Quite true, however the machine data is completely objective, while how you feel is completely subjective. Both have value but the objective assessment ought to be more reliable.

The usefulness of this reliable data depends on understanding how the data was acquired and computed so that the data is put in proper context.
Data maybe thoroughly reliable, yet totally invalid.
How a person feels is a valid piece of data in analyzing the effects of CPAP therapy. As a matter of fact, it is often recommended that people keep a log of how they feel. That's because the information about how they feel is extremely important, but memory is frequently show to be unreliable. Hence the recommendation to write their subjective experience down daily.

Not saying that the subjective "how it feels" is unimportant.
Only saying that "how it feels" is subject to human emotions and not always repeatable and dependable
The output of a transducer is designed to be repeatable and dependable.
