CPAP in cold weather
CPAP in cold weather
Does CPAP get effected any ways in cold weather? MY brother recently started using one, and we will be travelling to Mexico during winter. Just checking if cold weather can cause any damage to it or not. any idea?
Re: CPAP in cold weather
Believe it or not...People in cold weather climates use CPAPs too

Will your brother be sleeping outside in the cold while using his CPAP?

Re: CPAP in cold weather
When traveling, its best to have your CPAP by your side.
I don't even put mine in the trunk of my car, for the simple reason that the passenger cabin is more protected in case of a crash - and I don't want my cpap to be crumpled in the trunk should my car be backended.
Also, when travelling by planed it has to be carry on luggage. You don;t want it in one airport when you're in the other.
You're not delivering it in the airplane's freezing hold (freezing in the summer too at flight height), I see no reason to worry, but I'm sure somewhere in the manual it says at what temperatures to keep it.

Re: CPAP in cold weather
How cold does it get where you plan to travel in Mexico???
People in Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Scandinavian countries use CPAP with no problem (I assume primarily indoors, in heated homes). Surely they are colder than Mexico or at least comparable to areas in Mexico that might be at higher elevations.

Re: CPAP in cold weather
A CPAP machine will work indoors in a room at temperature above freezing regardless of the outside temperature.

It will also work outdoors in a tent, provided you have electricity.

We are planning to have outdoor camping too, probably in early to mid December. As you can see from these images Temperature could be as low as 44 and I couldn't see any instruction about temperature in the manual. Thanks for clearing the doubt. https://d1nwfvw9iqnfnz.cloudfront.net/g ... 141766.png Took these reports from Weatherspark and gowithguide stat

Re: CPAP in cold weather
From the AirSense 11 manual:
Operating Temperature +41°F to +95°F (+5°C to +35°C)
You'll be fine. In a pinch you can stick it in your sleeping bag down by your feet to keep it warm.

Re: CPAP in cold weather
Well, the CPAP machine will have to be very creative in finding fresh air to pump into the mask while it sits there, enclosed in a sleeping bag next to the camper's feet...
