I've Moved to CPAP

Post by gebo » Thu May 11, 2023 12:23 pm

After youtubing a lot. I have decided to quit APAP and move to CPAP. I have quit EPR and have no ramp. I noticed that I restricted my APAP down to 7-10. My Oscars didn't change much. I decided to go to static pressure of 9 and my results got better starting that night. Here's my question. Do I just keep moving down until my results go the other way? Would you go down .5 every week or go down 1 every week? Setting at 9 I am getting to 8 overnight.

I don't know how to download my reports.

Why do you feel the need to lower your pressure until things get worse? there's no benefit to using the least possible pressure, and indeed possible problems because sleep varies from night to night, and if you lower the pressures to an absolute minimum for one night, you might end up with more events the next night when your sleep and needs are different.

I want the lowest pressure possible to control my apnea consistently and minimize mouth leaks. Isn't that the goal?s

I'm talking about over a period of a week. I mean, I am shocked at what a constant pressure has done.

The goal is to avert as many apneas as possible... it's not a contest to see who can do it with the lowest pressure which can be counterproductive by itself. If you feel decent at a little bit more pressure, why not use it?

Another goal is to sleep soundly. Does your sleep with a fixed pressure leave you feeling more rested the next day?

As for leaks, as long as they are not in Large Leak territory, they don’t matter except to the extent they wake you up or keep you awake.

No, the goal is to get a restful night's sleep.

I agree 100%. My leaks were my biggest problem. Waking up over and over. Once I dropped my pressure and went CPAP, apneas went down, slept better, wetter mouth and throat, etc.

That comes to me by accomplishing “my” goal. See previous responses.

I wouldn't chase the numbers. Set the pressure which feels comfortable.... and as long as your numbers are acceptable, you're good to go.

You’ve been given excellent advice and I wanted to chime in on my personal experience.

Changing the APAP to CPAP was the best move. APAP was so disruptive as the pressure would shoot up and not go back down which woke me up and prevent good sleep. Looking at not just CPAP data in OSCAR but the report from my RingConn ring, my sleep is excellent. Feeling refreshed and mentally sharp each morning was my goal which I achieved relatively quickly, especially after going to a fixed pressure vs variable.

Wishing you the best in the journey.

I was started on a cpap only machine, but, after enduring 9 months with aerophagia,
I had to buy an apap out of pocket, which finally gave me the therapy I needed,
without the suffering.
Apaps can be run in cpap mode, if that is what you need.
