Aerophagia and bievel machine
Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
Something to think about....a very small/slow reduction in minimum EPAP if you wish to evaluate EPAP's impact on the aerophagia. Don't go making big changes...make small changes instead.
Now you know why I was scratching my head over who/what was to blame.

that IS more on keeping with my own protocol, isn't it?

16.8 it is!

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
update-

not sure what happened, but my oscar data didn't write to the card for the last week! i've made certain now that it's unlocked and firmly seated. hope to have some data starting tomorrow.
any road, i just got to the point where aerophagia has disappeared! of course, i've also reached the point where ahi has spiked to 14! but i knew from past experience that would happen.
was hoping to see what made up the ahi, but i'm fairly confident that is all obstructive apnea. here are my current aerophagia free settings-
max ipap 15
min epap 11
and the rest the same as reported before-
ps 4
ti max 2.0s
ti min 0.3s
trigger very high
so, team, what is my course for tonight? do i raise my ipap by .2? my epap by .2? or something else altogether?
appreciate the help!

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
Since you had no aerophagia, I'd say increase the min EPAP by .2cm tonight.
As for Max IPAP: What does the machine's LCD say the 95% IPAP was? If it was less than 15, I'd leave Max IPAP alone for the night.

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
copy that.
where would i find that on the machine? in the sleep report?
if so, it shows "Pressure 18.0" and "Exp Pressure 14.0"
thanks for the guidance.

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
Yep. The number for IPAP and EPAP that are reported in the sleep report are the 95% for Resmed machines' sleep report on the LCD.
This does not seem to agree with what you posted earlier about your settings, which were:if so, it shows "Pressure 18.0" and "Exp Pressure 14.0"
If your max IPAP is set to 15, then your machine should not be reaching an IPAP pressure of 18 at any point in the night.was hoping to see what made up the ahi, but i'm fairly confident that is all obstructive apnea. here are my current aerophagia free settings-
max ipap 15
min epap 11
Could you post an Oscar shot? Or a SleepHQ shot?

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
as soon as i collect some data. despite careful insertion of sd card, got no data from last night.
put in a different card and will report tomorrow.
the screen showed what i reported. i double checked and last night was 17.9 and 13.9. only change made by me was min epap from 11. 11.2.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
The default screen report on a ResMed Autosense is of a month's use.
I assume the same is true of a bi-level.
Make sure you get a single night's report.
You change the time reported by selecting "Info" on the screen and then clicking on the time period you want to view.

OH!!!
changed time period to 1 day and found "Pressure 15" which, again, i'm assuming is the 95%.
(how'd you get so smart?

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
results of bump in pressure yielded some results.
went to bed at 11 pm and woke at 5:45 am. so that's good as i haven't had that amount of continuous sleep in few weeks. then slept in two one hour chunks then got up.
another result is that i didn't eruct! while i still had gas, it manifested as flatulence. that doesn't interrupt my sleep the way eructation does.
i hasten to add that i sleep alone so no, there's no partner to gross out with all of this!
now, while i slept well, i certainly didn't sleep treated. woke up loggy and with a slight bit of headache.
here's the chart from last night-

i know it's only one night, but i'm hoping this becomes a trend as i slowly increase the pressure. will of course stay with my current settings for a few nights.

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
OUCH...ugly, ugly report. I know you think you slept well for quite a while...I wouldn't classify that as "well" and it's no wonder you feel less than ideal today.
Is that ugly related to sleeping position or chin tuck???? Something caused the ugly.

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
"well" is a relative term. i slept long without wake up. i know it's not "well" in medical terms.
and that's positional. i know because before i started getting gas so badly, i'd tried wearing a fanny pack with empty plastic pop bottle within to keep me off my back. the result was NO apnea for that period.
but still the gas. so i decided to treat the gas first.
do you think i should go back to the fanny pack?
i didn't want to have two things going at once.

Re: Aerophagia and bievel machine
so, it's been a minute since i've posted. so thought i'd let y'all know what's going on and see what kind of advice you may have.
here is what i've discovered-
1.when i sleep on my side, i get gas and do much belching.
2. when i sleep on my back, i don't get any gas.
3. when i sleep on my side, my ahi is nice and low.
4. when i sleep on my back, my ahi goes through the roof as the example above shows. too much obstructive going on.
5. when sleeping on my side, i also experience discomfort in my biceps. not exactly pain but certainly not pleasant. it's enough to wake me up to switch sides.
to me, the ideal solution would be for me to sleep on my back but with my settings such that my ahi is nice and low.
i'll happily post more charts for you smart folk to examine.
hope someone has some suggestions!
