Have to solve the "Last 20 breaths" thing too.
Oh well. We got time.

What is the Last 20 breaths thing.
The manual states that trigger and cycle are based on "average of the last 20 breaths" which is useless. Obviously one needs to know the entire night. Load last night into SleepHQ we'll manually determine machine breaths and compare your values against actual.
But I'm kinda thinking you have a ton more machine breaths than the claimed 90/96% spontaneous, but IDK if it's based on sessions, if data is excluded during massive leaks, one day or 7...

My thought recently is that all the sleep doctors I have seen have cared more about the AHI than anything else that shows up in. these studies. When I have gone to the last few doctors I have told them I am concerned about the amount of time I sleep. I am concerned about the shapes of my wave forms more than I am concerned about AHI.
So it guess it's at least mildly interesting that so far, NONE of us have mentioned AHI?
Just sayin'...

A sleep doctor will be concerned with Sleep Disordered Breathing.
You smoke. When was your wake breathing monitored? (Pulmonary Function Test, Oxygen saturation? Have you been to pulmonologist recently?)
Do you realize that the time you spent in therapy was about 2 hours? The first session was basically one long leak. Do you have any idea what made the second so much better? Is this something you can control?

Had to look this up: "Obstructive sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is a syndrome of upper airway dysfunction during sleep that is characterized by snoring and/or increased respiratory effort secondary to greater upper airway resistance and pharyngeal collapsibility."
I'm confused, so is SDB different from regular OSA?
I don't think I have eve had a wake breathing test offered.
I have had two PFT tests and both were no issues.
I had an arterial blood gas test way back at my first visit to the sleep doctor, they didn't mention any issues then. But at first my aapnea was very mild.
My current sleep doctor IS a pulmonologist. He was the one I first saw. Actually his daughter is now treating me too.
PS. I have had two or 3 lung CT scans over the years, one this past year and my primary is amazed that the tests came out perfect.
I
WISH I had a clue about why the first part of the night was a massive leak fest and the second part not a leak to be had. I remember waking up, sitting for a few, I hate to admit it but I
think I even had a ciggy. Then I put the mask back on and went to sleep. No idea what happened other than that.

OSA is
part of SDB. SDB also includes central sleep apnea, complex sleep apnea, and upper airway resistance syndrome. I suppose you can also argue that SDB also includes simple snoring if the snoring is not accompanied by apneas and hypopneas, but is enough to disturb the sleep.
And I won't be around for a while: We're skiing today and then driving to northern Virginia for some long delayed family time with my brother and father this weekend.

Sorry to have confused you - I simply meant having your breathing tested when you were not asleep, with a focus on genral breathing disorders, as opposed to breathing being disordered by sleep.

No problem.
I don't recall ever having my breathing observed during wake. But wouldn't my primary doctor mention any issues with my breathing when I go for my physicals? I do get winded when I do strenuous activities but I am overweight and not currently exercising. But as I said, my PFT tests are perfectly fine.

Depends.
Is he more interested in you or the next payment on his Lexus?
IIWY I'd get and keep copies of the PFTs to make sure they are, in fact, "perfectly fine" (AAMOF I'll wager that at least 2 parameters are NOT "perfectly fine"). Also you should be tracking trends so you'll know at what point you should have quit smoking 20 years ago. BTW how many packs per day do you smoke?

The ultimate fix for leaks, however, is silicon earplugs....
Also, I HIGHLY recommend you try herbal medications first, for sleep and relaxation, such as Valerian and many others, before you go and take prescriptions ones. And whatever you do, stay away from Clonazepam and other benzos, they are extremely addictive and you will pay for it if you take it long enough. You will need to continuously increase the dosage the longer you take it, and you will suffer withdrawals if you ever decrease dosage.
Hope this helps.
Thank you SO much for your reply. My f20 is the silicone one. Will these plugs still help with leaks if my mask is already silicone?
As for the Clonazepam, it's going down the toilet. I hasn't worked one iota anyway.
Thank you again!
That's even better! Silicone plugs stick to silicone much better than memory foam. The silicone f20 cushion is different than the AirTouch f20. It has a wider shape of the cushion walls, so you may have to apply it differently than what I specified in my instructions. I've tried Airfit f20 before with and without silicone gaskets, but that was a long time ago and I forgot the technique. I found AirTouch f20 to be way more comfortable and less painful on my face.
it looks like you have air touch f20 as your mask in your signature, you need to change it to AirFit f20.
