Best bet for full face mask

Post by colomom » Fri Mar 24, 2023 8:07 pm

A close family member unfortunately has acute myeloid leukemia. She’s been using an APAP with nasal mask for a few years, she never was completely comfortable with it but had pretty much got used to it.

With the recent chemo she now considers CPAP to be intolerable, she thinks maybe switching to a full face mask could help.

The cancer is aggressive as is the treatment. One of the side effects from the chemo that has hit her hard is that it can wreck your throat and mouth, even swallowing and talking are nearly impossible.
Because the cancer is in her bones the chemo by design has killed off all her white blood cells so she has to stay in a sterile environment as she waits for a bone marrow transplant. Therefore the usual advice of talking to another doctor is out. Wondering if anyone has advice on a good full face mask I could order from Amazon for her to try. I recognize that there’s a good chance it wouldn’t work, but am willing to gamble considering it might help make her a little more comfortable.

JNK recently linked to the following - a review of masks for 2023:

cpap.com is the sponsor of this forum, that has helped many of us, and they have a 30 day return insurance.

Can your family member raise the humidity in her air supply? Does she have a heated hose? I know chemo can cause dry mouth by wrecking salivary glands - have you checked all possible treatments (relief modes) for dry mouth?
