I think it's important to start out with the realization that what you're describing is not possible, and therefore it must be something else.
I'm here to learn. I understand its extremely weird, and since resmed appeared to never have heard of it, I accept my perception of events may totally be something else.

If you can accept that, then you'll be moving in the direction of figuring out what's actually happening.

As far as being disoriented, I dont think thats the case as there have been times when I was awakened by "whatever", and tried to go back to sleep, and whatever was happening kept on happening, so i ended up wide awake, mask still on, occurrence still happening. By way of analogy, like a child waking up his parent by tapping on their forehead untik the parent gets up and acknowledging them

You didn't give us any real information to go on, but from your comments, I'm going to guess that you're using a full face mask, every full face mask on the market has anti-asphyxiation valves in them that open when the machine is not running and creating pressure If your machine stopped, those valves would open, even more so if there were any sort of vacuum/suction, it would be exceedingly obvious if they opened and then snapped shut again, and since you don't mention that happening, we can probably dismiss that situation.

It's not the machine, it's your perceptions.
I 100% allow for that. I can only describe what I'm experiencing :) . So strange that no one else experience(d) the same thing / has had the same perception close enough to mine. It seems I have my answer as to my OP  . Now with your and other people generous enough to give of their time t help me figure out whats going on, maybe i can get to the root cause and get it sorted.

Ok, my comment about the mask and AA valves only applies to the FFM.
Post data, read the very first post on the forum where it tells you what to do before you post anything here. Then do it, and post some data.
I'm currently using a resmed full face F20, but it happen when using resmed masks that just cover the nose as well.

Will go back and read 1st post, gather oscar data, and post.

thank you for your time and insight. i appreciate the help and knowledge

I'll bet it's FOT searches. Need a file to look at to zero in tho.
Maybe, but the OP didn't describe the rapid (and usually faint) pulsing that FOT produces. Yes, we need data :)
I'm not sure what sensation FOT would produce, or how fast "rapid" is, but pulsing a word I thought of using to describe what happens, but I thought it would sound crazy to say "my mask feels like its pulsating" :D

Could you tell us the makes and models of the masks you've used? And do parts of the masks touch parts of you face during the "collapse"? Which parts of the mask and which parts of your face?
RESMED FF F20

I think its the entire mask. Hard to tell if mask collapse pulses on my chin
Bridge of nose and cheeks down to my jaw line for sure

Did the S8 models actually do the FOT thing?
I'm pretty sure (never having held one) that the S8 didn't do FOT, because that was one of the things that was trumpeted with the S9 when they upped the internal compute power considerably and started trying to differentiate between obstructives and centrals.

Nice catch!
Hmmmm, now I'm second guessing myself. Its been happening everyday, for so long maybe I'm just remembering it happening since the beginning, but start with the S9. hmmmm

"Perceptions" are hard to understand quite often and never having experienced what the OP is thinking he is experiencing makes it impossible to offer any ideas.
True! And just to clarify, when i said it "felt like a suction or a vacuum [was created]" , its not that I had no air (although the cpap wasnt producing air), the mask collapsing on to my face was the same sensation as if it was under section. Like if took the hose off the mask and place my hand to cover any hole that would allow air in, and then breathed in deep. The mask would collapse or get drawn into my face due to the suction I was creating by breathing in.

The mask feels like its collapsing the same way.

I know its very difficult to describe a sensation and even harder when the reader has no frame of reference. Gives me a new appreciation for authors who can

when you get a moment, pls fill in your equipment in your user profile. once it's done, it will show at the bottom of your post as mine does below.

thank you and good luck!

I have used probably nearly a dozen ResMeds of various models over the years.....never had it (what the OP is describing) happen so I am at a loss.
You've got me beat on that count, I've only used about 5, but one of the is that diagnostic "does everything' model, and I played with most of the modes on that too. :)

FOT is 4 times a second, and it's just a half cm up and half cm down pressure vibration.

Sreiter, do you have EPR turned on? I can recall people complaining of the mask "pulsing" between inhale and exhale. The problem went away when EPR was turned off and they just received a constant pressure.

Funny thing about EPR--before you get used to it, the reduction in pressure
can feel a bit like suction.

The real question then would be "does it drop pressure every time you exhale"?

But then, why would it happen only sometimes?

OK I'm out!
Freeze this moment a little bit longer.
Make each sensation a little bit stronger.

Sounds like a reasonable assumption it's happening every breath.

Because he has it set to Ramp Off, so when he first fires up it's not there, but when he wakes up in the middle of the night, it is?
I dont think it happens when I first go to sleep. I've tried shutting te cpap off for a few second or unplugging the hose from the mask to see if equaling the pressure in the mask might be the issue with limited success.
