Can anyone help me with my graphs

Post by imrdyman » Tue Feb 07, 2023 3:59 pm

Hello how do you do. Ive finally been able to sleep with my CPAP on but im still waking up tired. Was wondering if anyone can help me decipher what these numbers on the graphs mean. I dont have a resmed or phillips so its not OSCAR graphs so i wasnt able to get it all on one screenshot because the format is a bit strange. Also, theres a graph for "events" but it seems completely empty so i didnt include it. Can anyone take a quick peek and tell me whats going on. Thanks.

Welcome! Could you tell us the make and model of your machine? Ideally you will also put that information, plus your mask information, in the signature block for your profile. That way it will be available to readers every time you post.

Was this your first night sleeping with the machine?

I'm having some trouble figuring out the "trend" view for your data. Maybe it means all your events happened within a short period of time??

At any rate, for the night you did pretty well by the numbers, with an AHI of 2.7, almost all of that from hypopneas. Many people here would say an AHI under 2 is good and under 1 is excellent.

Does your machine have a feature that allows the pressure to drop each time you exhale? Using that might be of some help with the hypopneas.

But what really matters once your numbers are pretty good is how you're feeling. If you're still in the early days, it's not at all surprising you're not feeling better yet. For most of us, it takes time. Your body may not be relaxing into good sleep quite yet; it can take time for it to get used to the new sensations of the mask and the pressure. You may also need some time to recover from "sleep debt."

I notice that the time you spent using the machine was 6.7 hours. I bet you weren't asleep for all that time, so you may have had only 6 or 6.5 hours of sleep. For a fair number of people, that isn't enough. Can you try arranging your schedule so you can sleep longer? If you could aim for 7.5 or 8 hours of actual sleep, that would be great.

Yes its a Resplus autocpap from Beyond medical and using a resmed n20 nasal cushion mask with memory foam, ive also updated it on my profile. Yes im having trouble figuring out the "trend" view as well, thats what was mostly confusing me. Overall it shows 2.7 but in the trend view it says 11.2 per hour so i was thinking maybe thats why im so tired. This is about my 6th night sleeping with the machine. Yes my machine has exhalation relief, right now i have it at 2. I find that the machine has trouble detecting my inhale when i have it at 3 (3 being the most exhalation relief it can provide). Do you know if the graphs for my leak rates and the one for "Flow" look normal? If they do then maybe i need to just give it time and hopefully ill feel better in the future. Thanks for your response

The first page pretty clearly says your AHI for the night was 2.7, so that's the number I'd trust.

About leaks, I don't think we have a way to tell how you're doing. We don't know what level of leaks your machine can compensate for, and we don't know whether the leak values shown on the report include "intentional leaks," that is, necessary venting that allows the release of CO2.

About "flow": I'm not sure what part of the chart you're referring to. Tidal volume? That looks normal for someone who has a fairly large build.

What does the "static view" look like?

Oh ok. Yea it just seems to give me an average leak and a max leak. Is it difficult to see whats going on with leaks because of the obscure machine and program they having me using? I cant seem to get alot of info on them online hehe. According to google an acceptable leak rate is 20-24L/min so maybe im ok? If you click on the first link again, on the last picture, theres a graph thats labeled "flow" in between the "pressure" and "vleak" one. Ive tried to compare my graphs with the OSCAR graphs floating around here but im not sure what to make of them, they look a bit different. Also theres information that u can see if you hover over the graphs on my end, obviously it cant be done with just a screenshot. My doctor said he doesnt know much about cpap or sleep apnea, he was just able to prescribe one for me so im kind of on my own. Anyway, if its still all confusing its ok, ill try to do a bit of trial and error on my end with the pressure maybe that'll help. Heres a link to the "static view" if you still want to take a peek.

Looks like the person who did the programming didn't know what "index" stands for.

I don't see a reason to trust one number (AHI of 2.6) over the other (11.2 "times an hour"). Which is why the first thing I'd do it is ask to be shown the events "Event" in the curve view. It's not checked on the present image.

Yea im looking around at the manual for the program and theres alot of broken english, i think its a program and machine from China. When i do pull up the "event" graph its completely empty it doesnt show me any events. Im trying to look around for info on this machine and program but theres not alot. Maybe id be better off trying to get a more mainstream machine to get some more help from you folks, OSCAR graphs seem to be more useful.

I'd do that if I was in your place.

if you can afford to do so, i think you'd be much better off.

good luck!

Yes, maybe I'm too trusting on the "AHI." I think we'll never figure out those graphs without knowing what the units on x-axis are.

It would be great if you could get a different machine. The ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset is an excellent machine with an excellent track record. You could also get a ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset For Her, which has one additional mode of operation thought to be of benefit to many women and some men. The ResMed Airsense 11 Autoset came out fairly recently. It includes the For Her modality. I think the jury is still out on whether it is superior to the 10 machines.

Side note just in case you are thinking of buying from cpap.com.
Sign up for their "newsletter" aka soft spam and you will get notices about sales and promo codes.
The SuperBowl is coming up soon and if history repeats itself they may have another sale.
Last really good sale was last fall and the Card to Cloud AirSense 10 AutoSet went for around 500 bucks.
I don't know that they will do it again but they might.
