Doc told me I don't have OSA, but wishing he did...

Post by Bodzah » Mon Feb 06, 2023 2:30 pm

I have been seriously struggling with my sleep for a long time, I haven't had a single night where I can stay asleep for 5+ hours for years. I recently got a study done and was actually really hoping I was going to have OSA as I have tried everything I know to sleep better. The doctor told me I don't have OSA, but I do snore a lot (which I already knew) I am trying to fix this also and willing to do whatever it takes if it is going to help me sleep better, even if it involves surgery.

I was thinking of just buying a CPAP machine and giving it a go and seeing if if it helps. I know they are expensive so I have come here hoping for some like minded fool who has gone against what the doctor said and has had success.

Any advice or opinions is greatly appreciated honestly, fire away. I will take it all in

Thank you so much guys

All the best

Bodzah,

Can you please post your sleep study report? That will help us to understand if you have a problem that CPAP might help. Why does the doctor think you snore?

Also, are you male or female by birth? I ask because female hormones start to interfere with sleep in perimenopause so it helps to rule that out. Can't tell from your screen name.

Agree that seeing the actual sleep study report could help spot any possible clues in there. You'd be surprised at what some of the experienced eyes here can hone in on. Without knowing your specifics I'll just put it out there that there's a difference between a study proving you don't have sleep apnea and a study that wasn't able to capture evidence you have sleep apnea. For instance, not having enough time in REM while supine could mean a study didn't capture a worst case scenario. Also, people with jumpy legs may not get an accurate picture of any sleep apnea due to sleep interference by the legs. Allow the folks here to help you get a fuller understanding of your situation so you can make a more informed decision on whether to pursue CPAP treatment.
