Bleep Adhesive

Post by corgan115 » Wed Feb 01, 2023 6:31 am

Hey folks,

I am having some issues with my Bleep Eclipse but I believe Dreamport users may be able to help as well as it has to do with the adhesive.

Lately I have been waking up with uncontrollable leaking from my Bleep mask. If I take my finger and apply light pressure to the adhesive the leaking stops, but will start right up again if I remove my finger. This generally happens just a few hours after I fall asleep.

Last night I completely removed the halos, did my skin prep, then applied a new set of halos, just for the issue to come back a few hours later.

My pet theory is that I must have oily skin so I have been using isopropyl alcohol instead of witch hazel, but that has not helped.

Dors anyone have any advice on how to help the bleep adhesive stick to my skin all night?

Exactly what is your skin prep routine?
Are you using soap to wash your face before using the alcohol? If you are....what kind of soap?

And yes, people with really oily skin to have some extra challenges.
There is a different skin prep that seems to fight the oil more effectively but I can't remember the name of it at the moment.
I need to try to jar my memory. I will work on it.

Have you sent Stuart a note and asked him for help?

Hi Pugsy,

A fair point... My current nightly routine I wash my face a few hours before bed, not immediately prior to applying the isopropyl alcohol and eclipse halos. This I can easily change around and see if that helps. The soap I use is just your standard Dial liquid soap.

I don't know if this is related but I have also started noticing red marks on my skin where the adhesive sits. This is likely a combination of sensitive skin and not being very gentile when I remove the halos. I have had this type of reaction before with other adhesive bandages so it's not completely new to me. I ordered some Smith and Nephew skin prep to see if they might help. I am not sure if this is playing a role on the leaking front though.

I will also reach out to Stuart and see what he thinks.

Could be the washer coming loose from the tape. Check for that.

Check the ingredients on the Dial soap and look for anything that might contain oil.
A lot of soap have "moisturizing" stuff/properties and to add moisture it is usually some sort of oil.

Do your face washing/prep very close to bedtime so that you start the night with as little oil on your face as possible.
I know doing it earlier in the evening is tempting so that you have that chore done but people with oily skin will find that as soon as the washing and prepping is done that the skin will just start to add more oil.

Cavilon is what I was thinking of. The adhesive used on the halos/ports is a 3 M product and Cavilon is also a 3 M product.

Stuart knows of another one that he recommends that isn't quite so pricey.
So if your Smith and Nephew barrier doesn't help enough there are other options.

Thanks Pugsy, I will check that out. Also thinking about maybe changing out my facial cleanser. What are your thoughts on something like this? https://www.cerave.com/skincare/cleanse ... l-cleanser

I would think that since it specifically says it is for removing oil this would be a good choice.

I checked the ingredients list for the Cerave cleanser and I didn't see anything just screaming "I contain oil of some sort" but I will admit that I don't know a lot about all those chemicals in the ingredients.
Worth a shot though and if too drying on the skin you can always just use it on the area around the nostrils where the adhesives will be touching.
That's what I do and in the morning I add a heavy layer of some sort of moisturizer to counteract the drying of the prep.
I am 70 years old and female and I am also fighting wrinkles.

I’ve experienced similar things with my dreamports. It makes all the air rush underneath the adhesive and wakes me up and is uncomfortable. I think it may be due to the humidifier loosening them up with the water molecules.

I have very similar issues but the witch Hazel has been working fine for me, the ones that Bleep sells. If you do find a solution please let me know because I believe this is what is causing my issues lately with the dreamports. They worked fantastic for me all summer but this winter air is really killing my sleep quality. Thanks!

This is a good point. I started using the Eclipse in December and didn't start having this issue until this past week. It's possible the change in weather is having an effect. I could try turning the humidifier down...

What you described is exactly what I am facing. Air is rushing out from the adhesive from no particular area, its like the whole thing just got loosened. Just a slight amount of pressure pretty much anywhere on the adhesive strip will stop it but you cant just fall back asleep with your hand pressing on your face.

Yeah that’s why I posted hopefully we can figure it out. I think the moisture is loosening it up, not sure what solution can come up with but I know it didn’t happen nearly as much in summer

Question about the Cavilon though... is Cavilon a replacement for the isopropyl alcohol and/or witch hazel wipes or is it supposed to be used in conjunction with? I am having trouble finding the appropriate ingredients and usage for this product.

After washing and a replacement for alcohol or witch hazel.....I think.

I only used it once (long time ago and it was in a wipe form) and I just washed my face real good and then applied the barrier. Let me tell you it STUCK....it was like pulling off stuck concrete the next morning.
It didn't take off a layer of skin but I sure thought it would.

I have another wipe somewhere but I can't find it right now. If I can find it I can mail it to you to try. https://www.amazon.com/Cavilon-Sting-Ba ... B013OWC70G
Stuart gave me 2 wipes years ago when I first tried the original Bleep. I never used the second one. Alcohol or witch hazel seems to get the job done for me.
On a very rare occasion I might have the adhesive come loose but always right at the fold where nostril meets the skin of the cheek and/or if I have a "wrinkle" in the adhesive that I didn't patch up good enough.

Let me go see if I can find that remaining wipe. will let you know.

The other one may be this one, Smith & Nephew: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AS ... UTF8&psc=1

I only mention this because on the Bleep website they mention this one and the Cavilon for people with sensitive skin. I have higher hopes for the Cavilon though only because as far as I can tell S&N is just Isopropyl Alcohol, so I'm not sure how its any different from what I am using today.

Hoping this will do the trick. I absolutely love the Bleep Eclipse and if it stayed as snug all night as it does when I first put it on I would have literally no issues with it.

Send me a private message with your name and address and I will send you the one Cavilon wipe that I just found via snail mail.

That way you can at least try one of them and see what happens. I have no need for it.
