Seeking guidance on transferring machine settings from Respironics to Resmed

Post by icipher » Thu Jan 26, 2023 7:37 pm

Hello,

I will preface this post by saying I called and emailed my DME twice and have yet to get a response from them regarding this. I am thinking they may not like the fact that I got a new machine elsewhere.

I have a Respironics Dreamstation ASV. The machine has served me relatively well over the last 4 years. I recently acquired a very low-hour Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV from a fellow forum member. I have read that the Resemeds have fewer manual inputs as far as settings are concerned. Wondering if anyone here has any advice or guidance to provide on how I best migrate the settings from Dreamstation to Aircurve since my DME seems uninterested in helping me?

Thanks much.

If you TOLD us something, then we could help you.

Like, what *exactly* were your old settings?

Feeling a little snarky tonight eh?

My ask is around what the typical protocol is when migrating settings. Is there a user created guide that anyone has put together? Does setting X on Respironics exactly equate to setting X on Resmed?

My current general settings on my Dreamstation are:

Pressure: 25
epap max:20
Epap min: 8
Upper PS: 17
Min PS: 4
BPM: auto

Start with just copying over the Respironics setting to the ResMed whichever ones you have available.

These are the basics.
Keep the mode the same.
Keep the minimum EPAP the same
Keep the maximum EPAP (if in auto mode) the same
PS...pressure support....keep the minimum and max the same
Max IPAP...keep the same

You won't have a Flex option on the ResMed but you shouldn't need or miss it due to ResMed's EasyBreathe technology.

You are over thinking things.... :D

Do you have the provider/clinical manual for the ResMed ASV?

Thanks. One thing I noticed is that the Epap on the Aircurve tops out at 15, whereas on my dreamstation it's set to 20.

Additionally, any way I can figure out whether or not I need the ResMed to be set to ASV or ASVauto?

I have a user guide and quickstart guide but I don't believe I have the clinicians version

Another observation:

Despite matching the pressure minimums on both devices at 4, as soon as the Dreamstation turns on it goes immediately to 8. It actually goes from 8 on the "E" to 12 on the "I" which I assume to mean inhale and exhale. The Resmed starts at 4. To me it seems that despite the settings being matched, the Resmed is starting at a lower PS, 4, whereas the Dreamstation is starting at a higher PS despte having PS set to 4. Hopefully this explanation makes sense.

Basically, I'd like to go to sleep with the Resmed for the first time tonight and feel confident I won't suffocate in my sleep

ASVAuto.

Go here and request the manual via email. Instructions are on the page.
https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual
This manual is more comprehensive than the user manual.

Make sure you request
ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV

When you see 2 choices on EPAP.....a minimum and maximum...that means you are in auto ASV mode. This Is what the Respironics is set at.

When you see only one choice for EPAP then that means EPAP is fixed and won't/can't auto adjust.
That's the main difference between the 2 modes. Fixed EPAP vs auto adjusting EPAP.

Don't worry about PS max only going to 15 on the ResMed. It's unlikely you even see 15 PS when the machine auto adjusts the PS. Most likely the max PS is a bit lower anyway. Let the machine sort it out. It won't give you more than it thinks you need.

If the ResMed is starting at 4....either minimum EPAP is at 4 or you have the ramp turned on.
