Walking up sleepy

Post by Lou727 » Tue Jan 24, 2023 5:18 am

Hello,

I've been using my cpap machine for over 5 years now and I've never played with it, just kept the settings. Recently I've developed the following problems.
1. If I breath through my nose without blocking my ears I get headaches. I'm seeing doctors, they're trying to figure it out.
2. I got covid in August and since then I've had to increase the pressure because my SP02 levels fall below ninety.

I keep waking up sleepy.

I've attached a few screen shots of Oscar hoping someone can help me with this.

The company I bought my cpap machine from changed their technician and I'm no getting much from them.

Same machine for 5 years?
I believe you're eligible for a new one.
Do you have any idea what's going on in the beginning of the night, when the machine isn't detecting your breathing?

Is it running without you having a mask on your face?

Do you know if your machine is on the recall list? Have you hear about it?

My machine is not on the recall list.
I usually turn it on for a while so the air warms up before putting the mask on that's what this reading is.
I have the mask that fits on the nose only, I can't use a full face as get really bloated during the night.
I will be changing my machine within the next month but I really have to get some decent sleep until then.
Thank you for your reply.

Philips algorithms tend to be a bit conservative, and they may not be increasing your pressure fast or far enough after one OA to head off more of same. So to head off obstructive apnea events, you may need to raise your minimum pressure a bit more. You can do that a little at a time to see how it goes.

The other observation I'd make is that you may simply need more sleep. Six or seven hours simply is not enough for many people. Can you try making room in your schedule for eight?

The numbers on the chart (Max pressure 25) and some details (e.g. EPAP) indicate the use of a bi-Level machine.
And yet the machine is identified as a "DreamStation Auto CPAP in PAP mode: APAP.

Can someone running a Respironics BIPAP check what their OSCAR says?

I don't understand what I see and can't make sense of it.

I increased the pressure to 10 and slept a little longer. I woke up a few times during the night but I do feel a little better this morning. I still woke up quite groggy but I don't feel as tired as yesterday. I'll see how the day goes. I added a screen shot of the night.

In reference to the previous post I do have a DreamStation AutoCPAP machine. I added a screen shot of the label underneath the CPAP machine.

Good.

Are you using and SD card from another machine?
Did you ever have another machine?
As I said, I am confused by the OSCAR data you're showing. To the best of my knowledge an APAP shouldn't have a maximum pressure of 25, nor should it have information about EPAP. Those belongs to BIPAP's.

I suggest you get a new SD card, insert it in your machine.
Then:
After you've slept with the new card for one night:
  • Create a new profile in OSCAR
  • Make OSCAR read your data from the new card into the new profile.
If someone who knows Respironics machines thinks I'm wrong, I hope they chime in.

What type of SD card should I buy?
Does it have to be less than 2GB's?
What should I format it as, fat32?

Glad you had a better night. Stick with these settings for at least a few days and then let's see how you're doing.

I'll be curious how the mystery ozij pointed to is solved!

The machine will format it once you insert it. And it doesn't have to be less than 2G - Here's Pugsy on the subject:

Doesn't need to be a fancy expensive SD card either and in fact the bigger/fancier cards are just a waste of money.
4 GB size is plenty big enough but those smaller cards are getting hard to find and sometimes more expensive than the higher capacity cards.
Last time I needed a new card (bent one of the little metal thingies) the smallest I could find that was cheap was a 16 GB.

Your Respironics device is on the Philips Recall list: https://recalls-rappels.canada.ca/en/al ... chines-and Register your device on the Philips recall website or call its recall hotline at 1-877-907-7508. Philips has established a registration process where you can look up your device serial number and begin a claim if your unit is affected.

I bought an sd card, I attached a scren shot of last night.

I had to go back to 9.5 because the day after I set it to 10 I was feeling ok in the morning but by afternoon I was really tired.

In reply to TellyDoodle's post above, I contacted them last year and they told me it wasn't on the list. I guess they've added some to the list. I'll try calling them today.

Thank you to all of you for your help it's really appreciated.
