Air pressure setting Resmed apap 11

Post by Sl33pD3priv3d! » Fri Jan 20, 2023 2:28 pm

The sleep doctor had put the settings on 8 to 12 initially. I’m not sure what that was based on because I did my sleep test 13 years ago and he couldn’t find the paperwork. I did not get an updated sleep study. After not having any luck with the machine or the first mask I beat again to do my own research since I was not being supported at all by either the provider or dme company. I’ve been learned how to change the settings myself after getting the second mask (I requested the doctor to do so at the advice of the DME office but that took several days). He modified it from 4 to 8 and the ramp did not work. After learning how to change the settings myself I was playing around with it and had it on 5 to 7. Then I try to experiment and do 5.5 to 8.5. That was too strong so I reduced it back from 5.5 to 7.5. So as we use the machine longer can our lungs tolerate a higher air pressure? If no and our prescription was for way higher, 8-12 are we getting any therapy from such a low air pressure? I’ve still been really tired and exhausted even on the days when I can comply with four or five hours with the machine at night. If I’m waking up exhausted and tired doesn’t that mean that the therapy is not helping? I’m trying to figure out which factor(s) —if air pressure is causing no therapy or is it the nasal pillows not shooting up work into my airways that may contribute to my therapy failure.

You are not doing yourself any favors by changing pressure settings. You should stay at what the doctor recommended for a week or so to see how your therapy does. 8/12 is not a bad starting point. Ramp will not work when the minimum setting is 4. Ramp is used when the starting pressure (minimum) is higher. It's the minimum pressure that is the most important. You may not be getting the correct therapy at low pressures.

Because I couldn’t tolerate the initial 8-12 fir the initial 4 weeks I ended up not able to use machine when sleeping . Hence dme co asked me to ask provider to adjust it from 4-8. Yes the ramp didn’t work bc it was too low (not sure why the md didn’t know this, so dme co asked me to ask provider to adjust to 5-8). I did try to sleep at 5-8 but couldn’t tolerate it (zeeeero falling asleep). So dme co exchanged my mask and it was only after continued failure I began to adjust to titrate.

Do your settings include any EPR? And what is the usual breakdown of your AHI? For that, go into the clinician setting and select the option for more information on your screen each morning.

@ miss emerita
The EPR is on. I was too strong I adjusted it from 3 to 1. It’s on full time. Really know what everything means still on trial.

My bleep is supposed to arrive today so I’ll give it a few days to see how that works. Does anyone use the resumes nasal pillow. Angled at a certain way that is not blowing air into my airway I was wondering if all the nostril pieces are angled the same way— i’ve been hanging the tube up like an IV drip but can’t get it to work well and the past couple days I’ve tried bending the tube and securing it slightly with a fat layndry clip. Last few bites were awful, no sleep yanked off so I can sleep and made up needed hours.

I’m going back to the cardiologist to get a renewal referral so I can see a different mid whis a sleep md and pulmonologist. I’ve realized the current md im seeing doesn’t seem to be ethical or responsible. I thought ut was easier to see him since I initially got sleep study with him 13 years ago. Time for a 2nd opinion. Also I just recall
That they said I had UARS 13 years ago. So it appears that I’m having breathing issues even when I’m not lying down without having to collapse the airway, so is there a different treatment or machine for Uars patient?

The EPR makes breathing easier for most people...You didn't help yourself by reducing it from 3 to 1. You shouldn't make changes if you don't understand what you are doing.

You can't just guess at settings and expect them to work. There's a thread at the top of the page with this subject: Newbies PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

It's very helpful. Especially numbers 3 and 4.
