Hi,
I was wondering, what backup battery would most people recommend?

Do you need this for power failures at home only? How many nights do you expect to be out? If you are out for more than one night, can you get to someone during the day who has power to recharge the battery?

I have no idea what machine you have. the portable outlet battery will power most caps for 2 nights on air only. if you need humidity and heated hose, only one night. the best way to go is get a dc converter and plug into a lithium battery.

I use the resmed air sense 11. I use the portable outlet battery. I use 50 percent for 8 hours, air only.

Was said to power a cpap machine for 3 full nights of sleep on a full charge. I don’t know if that is with or without a Humidifier. You would need a step down converter since your ResMed Airsense 10 is a 24v unit and the battery is for 12v. The neat thing about this battery is that they make a solar panel you can attach to the battery, so whether you are camping or in a bad power outage situation, you could still charge the battery during the day. It’s a bit of an investment, but could really see this being a great solution for camping or an emergency situation.

Good to know, thanks for clearing that up. I haven’t bought one yet, so I was going off what someone else had stated.

There are dozens of battery options presented in dozens of battery threads, all the way from cheap DIY to hyper-expensive turnkey units that will run your CPAP and refrigerator for a couple of nights.

There are some batteries designed spicifically for ResMeds that output 24v that are cable only. They don't need the DC-DC converter.

We see this on some Freedom and the Pilot-24

Just seems like a reminder to me to call resmed again. Maybe if folks keep asking they will get around to inventing one.

When we spoke of this before I thought you said the proper cable would cut down on draw/battery use when used in the DC car jack.

Am I remembering that correctly?

Not quite.

The reduced battery consumption is not because of the cable, it's because using a DC-DC converter removes the ac-inversion and back to dc.

A battery uses DC, our ResMeds also use DC. When we use a power-station with an AC outlet;

• The voltage is inverted from 12v-DC to 120v-AC. This results is a lot of power loss.
• The voltage is then converted from 120v-AC to 24v-DC by the ResMed's power brick. This results in more power loss.

By keeping the current in DC, those two steps are removed and a lot less conversion loss is experienced.

When we convert 12v-DC to 24v-DC, some conversion loss will be experienced, but not nearly as much as either of the two steps described above.

ResMed's actually use 2 distinct dc voltages, 24v-DC and 3.5v-DC(*1), the cable has 3 wires. In an ideal world the power-station would output 24v-DC, so minimal conversion is required.

The batteries listed above, output 24v-DC.

I have a nice sine wave inverter, 100 ft extension cord and fused battery clips.
On loss of power I turn off the bipap humidifier heat and go connect the inverter on the car battery and extend extension cord from garage to the machine. If power is restored I plug my NOCO 10A charger on the car's battery. If power is not back, go drive the car for a while to recharge the battery.
Everything is in my closet, wrapped in saran wrap, ready to go. This is the only use for that power cord.

I set this up sometime around 2006 and have used it maybe a dozen times.

I have had the power go out for a few days. If i could get something that would last 2 or 3 days. then that would be more ideal i would say.
