How to add medical professional access to my Resmed data?

Post by reader2580 » Wed Dec 14, 2022 3:01 pm

I bought a Resmed Airsense 10 (with cellular modem) from a local DME after the Philips recall. I sent them a copy of the prescription that included the doctor's name, but they failed to give the doctor access to my Resmed account. I can see the data in my account. I cannot get in touch with the DME. Is there some way to get Resmed to allow my doctor access to my account?

I am not sure where the timeline is at with this but if it is recent as in the last few days ,you could try calling your health insurance company and ask them to hold off paying the DME because they are not cooperating with the MD who has to verify your compliance. Maybe if the DME knows they won't get paid they might act differently.

Just top of my head. Maybe someone else has something.

Call your doctor's office and ask one of the admins to log into your AirView account - https://www.resmed.com/en-us/healthcare ... t/airview/

(Not all doctors use AirView.)

Bad advice. All DMEs have their patients sign a pre-delivery agreement that the patient will pay if the insurance company doesn't.

Did the insurance even pay for the new machine? If the OP bought the machine out of pocket the insurance isn't even involved at all.
They won't care one way or the other if the DME has access to the data...and compliance usage is a non issue.

DMEs and doctors use AirView and not MyAir though. The DME or doctor has to initiate the setup with AirView.

I bought the machine out of pocket. This was in July 2021. When I saw my sleep doctor next he said he didn't have permission to access my data in the Resmed system. This isn't about compliance as I am years past that being an issue. The sleep doctor wants to be able to see the data to make sure my sleep apnea is being properly treated. I see the doctor virtually so reading the SD card is out of the question.

My sleep doctor retired, but before that, I was just telling her my compliance hours, AHI, leak level, and pressure settings at my annual appointment. She trusted me to manage my own therapy.

I’m very curious if you have better luck with resmed than I did. I never called, but emailed them several times, some years ago with this question, and I never got anything back but canned responses about contacting my dme and data integrity.

I've purchased my last 2 machines out-of-pocket, online, and I couldn't get my doctor access to airview (not that it mattered that much).

I remember reading once that DME’s pay resmed a fee for airview access.
The reasons were they needed the compliance data to get paid, it was the Resmed’s portal for changing settings (easier than making patients bring in their machines), and it gave them a reason for local sleep docs to refer them patients -- send us your patients, and we’ll give you AirView access to your patients. The cost was either written off, or hidden in other charges.

(as I get older, my memory gets worse and worse, so take it for what it’s worth!)

My doctor is a bit of a jerk(!), at annual appointment, he accepts the myair report showing acceptable ahi and hours and gives me a script for my supplies. He was absolutely no help in optimizing my therapy, and doesn’t care what my settings are. I truly think I understand more about it than he does!

If you have a good doctor who actually cares about your therapy, you may have better luck getting a free sleephq acct, and send him a link to your data.

Sorry for all your issues with that doc and the DME. It's not atypical.

Maybe you have optimized your therapy using OSCAR or sleepHQ? In my experience, it's the best way to do it. Forum help is also available if needed. Doctors optimizing - rarely happens.

BTW, when my sleep doc retired, I asked my GP to write my CPAP script each year at my annual physical. She said she knows very little about CPAP but has been happy to do it. You may be aware that any MD can write this script.

I would print out "several" pages of Oscar data-
-and send them to the doctor--by certified mail.
Better yet--hire a better doctor!

This is a sleep doctor.
Probably you're not his only patient with a ResMed machine.
Can he see other peoples' data?

Did the doctor imply it was a problem he had with setting up your account?
Did he ask you to do anything?

I cannot get in touch with the DME.
And why is that?
Did the doctor try to contact the DME?

He is a great sleep doctor. I was traveling four hours round trip to see him before COVID. Now I just do virtual appointments.

When I first got my Resmed I ended up sharing my computer screen with him to show him the reports from OSCAR. He is used to the Resmed reports and wasn't sure how to interpret some of the data on the OSCAR reports.

@ OP - I am confused. You say he's a great sleep doc but he doesn't know how to use AirView or is too cheap to pay for it. How can that be "great"

You have more skin in the game than anyone else including your doc. Nobody cares about you as much as you do. Patients must advocate for themselves nowadays; the days of Marcus Welby are long gone. Go to the wiki and read everything you can, take ownership, and manage your apnea. You CAN do it except in the most complicated situations that apply to very few people -- perhaps those with COPD, pulmonary hypertension, etc. Go forth and learn.

You can tell him that:
OSCAR only reads, and present whatever the machine write on the SD.
And you can also point him to OSCAR instructions and wiki, that should give the info he wants.

He knows how to use Airview. He has not be been granted access to see my Airview data. The DME sets up that access, but they did not set it up and I cannot get in touch with anyone at the DME.
