Re: Poll: Primary Way of Self-monitoring Aspects of Your Therapy
How I monitor my therapy. I watch my oxygen level with my finger ring. I need oxygen while I sleep only. I very seldom get a reading below 89. I average 96 overnight. my events overnight are very low. I average .5 to 1. when I was on cpap only. my events were higher and oxygen levels were dropping down to 70 most of the night. I was up every 2 hours, felt like crap all day. when I started oxygen with my cpap. I sleep most of the night now and feel good all day. oxygen saved me. if you are having problems. have your doctor check your blood oxygen. it might work for you too. a lot of people complain about their cpap is not helping them. get a blood test. you should also get yourself a good o2v ring. spend the money. that's how I found my problem. believe me when oxygen level drops down to the lower 80s and into the 70s. you are not sleeping. we want our oxygen up in the 90s while we sleep. 90 is the border line.
Re: Poll: Primary Way of Self-monitoring Aspects of Your Therapy
Daily quick checks of Dream Mapper for my DS2 and O2 Insight Pro for my O2Ring while having morning coffee and reading emails and various other things of interest on the computer. A Fitbit app for the watch also gets looked at for sleep and HR for the night. If any of these three things have something that appears a bit off the DS2 and O2 Ring data get loaded into OSCAR for a more detailed look. OSCAR hasn't seen much use lately as my nightly AHI numbers have been pretty consistent around 0.2 to 0.7 and the O2Ring 'score' has been around 9.6 to 9.9.
Was this poll targeted towards ResMed users since MyAir was an option, but not Dream Mapper?

If anything looks off in MyAir or I sleep badly, I break out OSCAR to see what was going on. Does that make MyAir the primary? Maybe - I check it every day, and OSCAR maybe once a month.
Re: Poll: Primary Way of Self-monitoring Aspects of Your Therapy
I figured "other software" would cover it.
But yes, I admit that you have uncovered that I may be suffering from a slight pro-ResMed bias.
Hey, some of my best friends are non-ResMedders.

I would consider that to be MyAir-primary. But I trust your judgment on what you consider the most vital to you. Which would you miss more if it wasn't available to you?loggerhead12 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 8:25 amIf anything looks off in MyAir or I sleep badly, I break out OSCAR to see what was going on. Nothing could replace OSCAR, but it would be as though the check engine light on your car no longer worked and you had to hook the little computer to it all the time to see if it had any trouble codes. Inconvenient and it could delay finding an issue.lazarus wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 9:17 amI would consider that to be MyAir-primary. I am new in the CPAP therapy and anxious to improve.
I am interested with your focus on oxygen.
But I am not clear about what you say:
Are you tracking your SPO2 with your O2 ring?
Have you loaded your oxygen reporting into Oscar?
That I understand, but do you do anything more?
Thank you

Re: Poll: Primary Way of Self-monitoring Aspects of Your Therapy
It is true that some have related conditions that need treatment with O2. That should generally show up in supine awake breathing, though, as I understand it.
For titrating levels of PAP for OSA, however, treatment guidelines place the focus on specific events, since sustained saturation is generally corrected by pressures lower than what is needed to correct other breathing issues that disturb sleep:

Home O2 monitoring with consumer-level products is often inexact and easily tainted by artifact, so that is another reason I believe that for most OSA patients, focus on home-machine reported AHI is much more productive for the process of optimizing treatment pressures, despite anecdotal claims often made by those with O2-related comorbidities.4.2.1.1 CPAP should be increased until the following obstructive respiratory events are eliminated (no specific order) or the recommended maximum CPAP is reached: apneas, hypopneas, RERAs, and snoring (Consensus). . . . The Task Force recommends that SaO2 desaturation-resaturation events occurring without associated obstructive respiratory events should not be considered in the decision to increase CPAP in pediatric and adult patients.

Re: Poll: Primary Way of Self-monitoring Aspects of Your Therapy
It's not an either/or answer.
Screen data is used daily as an alert to bad therapy or a confirmation of good therapy.
OSCAR is used for any necessary troubleshooting.
(Screen has more data than myAir. More false alerts with myAir.)

Re: Poll: Primary Way of Self-monitoring Aspects of Your Therapy
While I do a daily check of the on-board data shown on the machine's screen, I still chose "Oscar" as my "primary way of self monitoring aspects" of my therapy.
Here's why I chose Oscar instead of "screen of machine:" I really use the machine's screen combined with "how do I feel" as a quick way of telling me how much time (if any) I need to spend looking at the data in Oscar. The on-screen data is never enough to explain why I might be having problems with aerophagia. The on-screen data is never enough to give me an early heads up that hubby's mask might be starting to leak because its cushion is worn out. And "I don't feel well" (or "hubby doesn't feel well") always warrants a closer look at the data in Oscar rather than just a quick look at the machine's numbers.
In other words, when I feel good, if the machine's on-screen numbers are also good, there's not much need to analyze stuff very carefully. But if I'm not feeling good, the machine's on-screen numbers don't give me enough info to figure out what (if anything) might be wrong in terms of xPAP.

Re: Poll: Primary Way of Self-monitoring Aspects of Your Therapy
Since I did not desat during either sleep test, I had not used a pulse-ox for several years.
When starting chemo last year, I bought a new one--just to ease my mind.
(The old one died.)

Re: Poll: Primary Way of Self-monitoring Aspects of Your Therapy
I consider that a perfectly valid reason. I check my overnight O2 every few years for much the same reason.
Many thanks for that detailed and, as always, informative and thought-provoking reply, robysue1.
