Noise on inhale and exhale from AirSense 10...
Noise on inhale and exhale from AirSense 10...
First post, so please forgive me any etiquette errors. I have a Resmed AirSense 10 APAP machine with the climate-controlled hose and onboard heated humidifier and the AirTouch F20 full-face mask in a medium size. I got it in March of 2020, but it was a rental from the DME company so I have no idea how old it actually is. The sticker on the back doesn't give a manufacture date. I have been using it without much issue for the last 2 years and 8 months. About about 1 year after getting it, it was making a hissing noise and I wasn't getting a good seal. I took it to a respiratory therapist and had it looked at. We discovered that there was a small crack in the mask/hose connector (I was using a different mask at that time) and when I fixed that, it worked fine. Then, about a month ago, it started making noise again when I inhale and exhale and it makes a low hissing sound even though it says I am getting a good seal and the humidifier is working properly. I was behind on changing my hose and humidifier due to issues with receiving them from the DME company and I thought that was causing the issue. But yesterday I received my new parts so I changed the humidifier tank, the climate-controlled hose, the air filter, and a new mask kit and headgear. I also use a mask cover and strap pads that I have been using for the last year or so (of course, washing and changing as needed) without any issues. The humidifier and hose temperature and humidity settings are set to "auto" and I haven't had any problem with that up until now. I did turn off the ramp setting about a year ago. When I run a mask-fit test I can hear the same noise. It registers between 30 - 40 decibels and it sometimes wakes me up, but it keeps my wife awake most of the night. I recorded the sound with my cellphone microphone next to the machine, but the forum won't let me attach an MP3 file so here is a Dropbox link (https://www.dropbox.com/s/z4plt8uc54t8p9e/CPAP.mp3?dl=0). According to the information in the MyAir App, I had about 5 events an hour last night, but that seems to be normal (I was at over 35 events per hour before starting CPAP). I don't have any other software to use. Any help on figuring out why it is making noise and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the elbow that connects the hose to the mask, it has two flaps valves in it. have you ever replaced that part?

Welcome! I don't have an answer to your question, but here's a short video to help you figure out the run hours on your machine:

Yes. I get a new elbow every 6 months with the full mask kit. I replaced that part yesterday with everything else, but it didn't change anything. I am wondering if the seals inside the machine are going bad. The noise doesn't seem to change even when I push the mask as tightly as I can onto my face.bobsk8 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 11:20 amSounds like the elbow that connects the hose to the mask, it has two flaps valves in it. have you ever replaced that part?

Thank you for that video link! I was able to check the hours. It shows 6406 hours, so it sounds like it was new when I got it.Miss Emerita wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 11:23 amWelcome! Happened to me after about 18 months -- within warranty.
The blower had to be replaced.
And since it was withing warranty, it was replaced free of charge.

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

Make sure your filter's OK... check it while the machine is running.
I've had the hypoallergenic filter get sucked past the little standoff posts, which made the machine misbehave until I replaced the filter.
