ResmedMstar cflex
Good day all,
I might be new to this site, but I have central sleep apnea, and have been using the same Phillips M star cflex fo over 15 years. I had three at one time, and now I am down to two. The unit suddenly said "needs servicing,' so I am down to one.
I have tried an auto adjust, but it doesn't work for me.
I use the smallest of nasal plug one strap headband, made from the breeze for my mask.
I have prescriptions, and have always bought my own gear.
Now CPAP.com can't send stuff to my state, and I need a constant pressure unit or two.
Any advice would be helpful. I am willing to buy used, but it now seems all CPAPs self adjust, based on heartrate, etc. Since I am in afib part time, this is not going to work for me. The unit I tried kept pulsing, and did not match my breathing. I think it was for obstructive SA.
Thanks for advice. My setting is about 9 constantly.
have a great evening

Re: ResmedMstar cflex
It doesn't matter if you get an APAP or a CPAP, either can be set at a fixed pressure of 9 if that's what you think does the best for you. You state you have central sleep apnea, and a fixed CPAP may not be the best option to treat that. Has anyone paid any attention to the efficacy of your treatment since the Pleistocene age when your preferred model of CPAP was made? Do your Remstar models even have efficacy data, and do you have the antique reader to see data--or does your doctor?
NO CPAP's/APAP's "adjust to heart rate". They can't measure it OR adjust to it. APAP's CAN adjust to apnea, within whatever settings are made, but again you can set an APAP to a fixed pressure and it won't adjust at all. If you are "sometimes in AFIB", perhaps your treatment isn't really working for you??? While CPAP is meant to treat sleep apnea and not AFib, effectively treated sleep apnea often reduces or eliminates Afib. But NOT by adjusting to your heart rate.
The new machines work very well, even at a fixed pressure. Time to come into the modern age. And yes, you can find them used if you don't have insurance to cover it. Look for LSAT here online and send him a p.m.

Did your doctor prescribe a straight CPAP for central sleep apnea? This is not the usual treatment.Chaserchuck wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 3:32 pmI have prescriptions, and have always bought my own gear.
Do you keep a check on data showing your nightly AHI and leak level? Ineffectively treated sleep apnea can cause AFib.

I had the C-flex M star machine with humidifier as the base do you have the same machine? If so can you provide me with the serial number? From the base and CPAP. You can email
me at: miacrswll59@gmail.com. I tried calling Phillips they stated they did not have serial number.

Did you buy the machine from cpap.com? If so, you should get in touch with them. https://www.cpap.com/gtermwell wrote: ↑Tue Nov 29, 2022 8:57 amHello,

Re: ResmedMstar cflex
It is not fair to Chaserchuck to ask him to give you the serial number for his M series machine. If your M-seris is under recall, then so is his. And in that case, Chaserchuck should register the machine(s) he still has in order to get them replaced under the recall for his use.gtermwell wrote: ↑Tue Nov 29, 2022 8:57 amHello,

PR is under no obligation to replace a machine that you no longer own
Are you currently using the machine you say you got to replace the one you threw away? If so, what brand and model number is it? If it is a PR machine, have you registered that machine in order to get a replacement for it? If not, why not?got another I think that one is recalled too.

Re: ResmedMstar cflex
He doesn't seem to want a replacement. He wants to sue PR because he thinks their machine caused his asthma and thyroid problems.
Maybe he wants to know the model number and is calling it the serial number? Hard to tell what he wants.

Good luck with that.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Tue Nov 29, 2022 1:19 pmHe doesn't seem to want a replacement. He wants to sue PR because he thinks their machine caused his asthma and thyroid problems.

He says it's an M-series. And he's specifically ask for the serial number.
It's also the case that when a person alleges a device caused an injury, you need more than just a serial number to establish that you owned the device and used the device in an appropriate way before the injury occurred. And my guess is that even a moderately competent corporate lawyer for PR would have little or no trouble establishing that the serial number this guy provides as "proof" that a PR M-series caused his asthma and thyroid problems is for a machine that he likely never owned or that he obtained from the grey market and hence PR has no liability because he can't prove that particular machine was set up by a qualified DME and properly maintained before he just "threw it away" before the recall was even announced.
It's also worth pointing out that the need to preserve evidence for a lawsuit that alleges injury from a device that is used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions is why a lot of the folks on the threads about the PR recall are saying that they are hanging onto their old machines as potential evidence if they later do develop one of the problems that PR has admitted can be associated with the potential inhalation of the black foam particles. In some cases I think there are posters that have simply opted out of having their machines replaced at all if they believe they are required to send the recalled machine back to PR as a condition of getting the replacement machine.
Finally I'll add this: Yes, I expect there to be one or more big class action suits about this recall. And while PR will most likely pay a whole lot more money as a result, the average user of a PR machine is not going to see any more than the $50 that PR is offering to Series 60 owners who opt to just use insurance to replace their aging machine on a typical replacement cycle rather than continuing to wait for PR to replace their machine under the recall.

The M series aren't under recall, the recall started with the System One series.

I never heard of that machine.
Does the OP even know anything about his/her machine--or their sleep disorder.
The failure of providers to inform patients is maddening.
The same failure by patients is just baffling!

Well, in one place, there was "Phillips M star cflex" and in another "ResmedMstar cflex", neither of which ever even existed.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 10:42 amI never heard of that machine.

There was a Respironics M series, that came out before philips bought them. Resmed, of course, never had anything to do with them. Respironics slapped "Remstar" on everything they made for a decade or two, so that means nothing, neither does "cflex', (though technically that narrows it down to "not an auto or bipap").
So, basically, the best way to describe what the OP has written is "word salad".

So, almost doggerel--but doesn't even rhyme.
And is not funny, either.
