Problem with quick burst of air on inhale

Post by Lilah » Sat Nov 26, 2022 8:57 pm

Hi, I’ve been using my AirSense 11 Autoset with the AirFit F30i for a few weeks and things were great… until the whapping.

For the first few weeks, when the machine started (at a 4), the mask would make an annoying little “whap” just as I began to inhale. It would do this for a few breaths and then it would stop and everything would be fine. Sleep! Amazing!

Last night, though, the “whap” didn’t stop. Every inhale, I got the whap. I checked the hoses, the mask fit… everything seems fine. But I can’t use the thing Please help me stop the whappening!

On my F30, which is very similar to the F30i, the "whap" happens when the mask's valves snap shut.
The valves are two flaps in the elbow - they're open when you start therapy, and "whap" shut when the airflow starts.

Could it be that the elbow isn't connected firmly enough to the mask? Did you try connecting and reconnecting from the mask side, not the hose side?
Could be that there are water drops in the elbow after you washed it? If so. try running the mask fit test a number of times - its' a great way of drying masks and their parts.

Another possibility is that you need to take the humidifier fully out and reseat it.

Download OSCAR to see if there's another source of leak or if the machine is dropping pressure for another reason.

You'll find the necessary instructions here:

Many years ago, when I was using a full face mask, we had a power outage.
The slapping sound of the AA (anti-asphyxia valve) just doing its thing, woke me.
