I’m a 21 year CPAP user and it’s time for a new machine. I bought a ResMed S9 many years ago, but it developed the dreaded whistle when I exhaled. Been using my current Respironics BiPap Pro 2 for well over 10 years. I’ve been able to cobble together parts for years to keep it running. Now it’s starting to make a high pitched sound and I can’t find another motor
Anyway, looking for the least problematic machine out there today. I don’t want anything prone to strange noises and breaking down. Any thoughts on what to buy or what to stay away from will be much appreciated.

Re: Need a New Machine
Welcome!
I’d recommend a ResMed Aircurve VAuto. It’s a bilevel machine, and I haven’t read any complaints about its breaking down. Mine is quiet and reliable.
I think the occasional individual machine in any make and model will make odd noises, so no one can absolutely guarantee that would never happen.
I’m curious what other people might say about your question.

Re: Need a New Machine
My daughter bought a new Resmed from our host (cpap.com) yesterday. I was a good deal because of the black Friday sale. You might want to check to see if you can get a new machine at a good price.

Re: Need a New Machine
Thanks for the replies. Had to see my sleep doctor today since it's been 10 or more years since I've seen one and the insurance required it. He's recommending a ResMed APAP machine. Not sure if it will be a 10 or 11.
Interesting thing about my visit today is that they no longer had records of my past sleep studies. They were done in 2001 and maybe 2005ish. Insurance is requiring a sleep study before they will approve a new cpap machine. Will be doing an in-home study next week. What a waste of time and money! 21 years of cpap and they need a sleep study. I can tell them no cpap, no sleep for me. On the positive side, wife and I have met our family out of pocket max so no money out of my pocket

Re: Need a New Machine
20 year ago you needed a bi-level machine and now your doc recommends a Resmed APAP before you sleep study?
Do you know what your PS was on that BiPAP?
ResMed APAP's do give you a maximum PS (pressure support= exhale pressure subtracted from inhale) of maximum 3.
I don't thing EPR existed back in the days of the Breeze (my pillows maks too) - https://patents.google.com/patent/EP1893265A1/en

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

As long as you get your machine by December 31st (if that's when your deductible resets). The clock is ticking . . .On the positive side, wife and I have met our family out of pocket max so no money out of my pocket
