This means approximately seven out of eight diagnosed diagnosed patients are male. The article also claims that men are twice as likely as women to have Sleep Apnea. If you accept that, two out of eight patients would be expected to be female, based on ideal medical protocol.

However, I don't know if women are really twice as likely than men to have Sleep Apnea, as claimed in the article. That is because the number and nature of unknown "patients" is, by definition "unknown."

And then you wonder...

... the article.
It's not an article.

It's an advertisement.

Yeah, but then again, advertisements make up more than 87% of the Internet.

If you doubt that number, I will gladly attempt to prove it to you for $50.

That is the monthly payment. It was in the fine print.

And at least in 2022, we now know that we know almost nothing on this entire subject:
The lack of available knowledge on almost all aspects of OSA in women, including the effect of CPAP and its prognosis, is very striking. . . . A large number of questions arise: Are simplified diagnostic methods valid in women? How does age influence OSA in women? Should we adopt the same CPAP treatment parameters and algorithms as in men? Is the impact of OSA on the neurocognitive and cardiovascular spheres comparable in men and women? Are clinical tests such as the Epworth Sleepiness Scale valid for selecting which patients are symptomatic or for making therapeutic recommendations?--

this is consistent with what we were talking about last week wrt mens vs women’s healthcare.

thanks for posting. Sadly it’s only an editorial and not a study diving into it.

Their first step (AASM) is admitting they have a problem.

I know. They're asking the question, not providing any real answer. Yes, it is an infomercial of sorts, but I thought that it was a good way to introduce the topic of gender disparity.

I agree just getting the attention by an editorial is a good first step.

I'm not so sure how steps 8 and 9 of the 12 are gonna go for 'em, tho.

Not AASM's fault in this case.

The above ad is some babe selling dental devices.

Agreed. More the victims of the lack of data than the cause.

Thanks.

Coincidentally, more women suffer from TMJ.
See how well the ads work.  :(
