Our local electric utility has already dispatched crews to help out in the "sunshine" state.
We have our share of weather emergencies; but Nebraska is mostly inhabitable.
Our crews need to be trained--but other places have the real disasters.

I imagine there will be a few, but if you left the area they took them with them. On a side note if you have an electric car and going to evacuate and your battery goes dead in traffic on I95 or I75 your up that well know creek.
I feel sure Fox News has their reporters desperately looking for one stalled EV so they can feed stupid crap to their viewers.
Even if Fox doesn't find a stalled EV, they'll say they did just the same...

I don't watch any of the major cable news channels. Fox, CNN, MSNBC, whatever some of those newer ones are - don't watch any. All of them have clear tactics:
1. Make you mad at someone.
2. Make you hate those someones
*.
Who wants to spend their short life sitting in front of a boob-tube listening to hate and anger?
It's good to hear cable news ratings are way down. Maybe America is recovering from this mental sickness?
*"Someones" is in the Scrabble dictionary.

Remember back when people thought that the creation of customized newsfeeds and social media would surely unite the world?
Instead, as one local songwriter recently put it:
"Realities are easy to ignore
Just find an echo chamber slam the door
Pump your fist up to the sky
Don't concern yourself with why
Just give what for"
Network news used to be an attempt at a first swipe at history; now it only aims for being (at best) a first swipe at historical fiction, since it is now admittedly nothing more than a form of entertainment competing for views and clicks like everyone else.

Why is it that the only people who don't seem to realize this is the news media themselves?

Um, iono, maybe the people who march/riot/shoot/mask/vax/etc. based on which entertainment channel or social network they happened to "choose"?
Hook. Line. Sinker. All sunk.
I miss the older, more serious, and more respected news outlets and anchors, like Chevy Chase and Roseanne Roseannadanna, myself.

Back when snl was funny! The only thing fairly recently that I thought was funny was their Alexa for seniors commercial.

There are about 25 million people living in Florida...How many hundreds of thousand CPAP machines will be destroyed by Ian this week?
Now that it has hit and the flooding is apparent, what's YOUR estimate?
And all those seniors without power, even if the machine is fine!
Staggering.

I refuse to buy an Alexa unless it will respond to “Odessa!”.
Yea, that was golden.

I have an Alexa and Google device in the same room. One time I spent over an hour trying to get them to talk to each other. When my wife came in and asked what I was doing I told her I was trying to get those two stupid things talking to each other. She said maybe they were just curious how long the third stupid thing in the room was going to keep trying. Then I realized she meant me…
