EASE treatment (nasal passage expansion)

Post by 1041 » Tue Sep 27, 2022 6:12 am

For anyone who's ever felt like it was difficult to breathe through their nose - the reason for my own CPAP failure and in general a great detractor from quality of life - I wanted to spread the word about the EASE treatment by Dr.Li in Palo Alto, CA. It's similar to SARPE but SARPE has a tendency to only open the front: think gap between the front teeth - and fail to open up the actual nasal passages which requires spreading out the bones more toward the back of the throat (not sure how to describe that). EASE actually has the goal to focus on the the bones at the back of the throat. Consequently, as a nice side effect there's only a very minor gap between the front teeth.

But most importantly, it seems to be more effective than SARPE at actually widening the nasal passages. Here are some videos to learn more about exactly what this means:

My personal experience: I'm only partway through the expansion, but I can now jog breathing through my nose the whole time. When I do a nose rinse (NeilMed bottle) the tubes seem bigger like flushing water through a hose as opposed to a coffee straw stirrer. In general I can breathe through my nose while sleeping. It's really wonderful.

Finally, it's surprisingly low impact as far as surgery and recovery. Basically you can work the next day after the surgery, just take some regular OTC painkillers. You will have to lay off jogging or weightlifting for a week. I did MMA and if MMA is a marathon up a mountain this is like a walk on a gentle hill.
