HDMZ2 VS Apex XT auto travel Cpap machines

Post by nlsnlink » Mon Sep 19, 2022 8:39 pm

Any recommendations for a travel cpap machine? I have a resmed airsense10 for regular use. Considering the HDMZ2 vs Apex XT Auto Cpap and wonder what others experiences are with either machine? I want to be able to use my regular mask. Also wonder how the waterless humidification is on the HDMZ2. Thanks

Why do you want a travel machine? To save weight and space? Because you will have to use a battery?

I have a Z2 auto. My reason for purchasing it was to save space when traveling light. It easily fits in my roller bag for airline travel.

I also have used it for a couple months when my Resmed Airsense 10 auto was out for repair and eventually replacement.
I only used the HME briefly for a few days, and frankly, I did not feel it was all that effective, so I skipped using it after that.
I am fortunate that I can go for some time without the humidity. While any travel unit won't perform exactly like your main unit, I was lucky to have it as a backup at that time, and once I was acclimated to the Z2, I slept quite well with it.

I had an occasion to use the Z2 unit again this June, first for one night at home to make sure it was working OK, and then for a few days on a trip back to Chicago. I slept well, and had AHIs of approx. one. The Z2 does a decent job for a travel unit. Of course, I prefer my Resmed unit, and if space and weight is not an issue, I would use it. I did that on my 2 day drive from Chicago to Houston in FEB of 2020 since I was moving, and I had to bring that with me to use after relocation.

I used the Z2 for a few days when I flew down for my job interview in 2020, prior to my relocation as well. Again, I did not bother with the HME. I am lucky that I do OK without the humidity, although I do prefer to use it on my Resmed unit.

I don't have any experience with the Apex unit. Check out online reviews as a start.

If you decide that you need a travel unit, I suggest making sure that you have a reasonable return period. I purchased from the board sponsor, and they offered a 30 day trial at the time. There are some tradeoffs with any travel unit. There is some added noise, and the therapy is a bit different. Falling asleep it feels like I could use more air, but that feeling passes for me, and I sleep well. All in all I am satisfied with the Z2.
