Lost hearing - HELP!
Lost hearing - HELP!
Anyone ever lose hearing due to some abnormality with Cpap use?
I woke up a few nights ago and had severe ringing in my right ear. Went back to bed and woke up with complete hearing loss in that ear and it hasn't returned. I am hoping someone can relate and found a reason and a cure for this occurrence. I live in remote Alaska so going to see a ENT is a process that take time.
I've been a Cpap user since 2010 and experienced a lot of stuff with the machine but this is a first. I currently have a Airsense 10 cpap. I use distilled water. My pressure isn't too high - 12. I really thought this would pass but it hasn't'. I am a 68 year old male just so you know. I was diagnosed with central sleep apnea in 2010.
While I personally doubt this is Cpap related I am kind of desperate and thought I would reach out here just in case someone had a similar experience.

Re: Lost hearing - HELP!
First, I would never suggest anyone shrug off a sudden hearing loss. Too many possibilities depending on medical history. May be worth a tele-medicine appointment or call.
That said . . .
In my case, sudden loss of hearing is usually allergy-related, especially this time of year. Generic Flonase and generic Benadryl in combo are the only things that will eventually dry it out after a few days for me.
And respect to you for being a rural Alaskan! Have friends near Palmer, but that's probably downright urban compared to the real rurals.

The people who confuse "entomology" and "etymology" really bug me beyond words.

You might also try a sinus rinse, like NeilMed.

If you had a high level of central apnea during your sleep study, you may need a different type of pap machine. If you post your sleep study, redacting your personal information, it will help us see what is going on. You can sign up for OSCAR on this site, then post your readings here. That will help us see how your therapy is going.
As to your hearing, I read that hearing loss from pap use is extremely rare, and seems to occur only when extremely high pressures are regularly used.

Thanks for the responses. Still no relief or regaining hearing.
I will see a medical provider. Meanwhile I've been using a nebulizer I got from Amazon. I do nostril breathing. My daughter suggested a steam cup on the ear - been doing that plus a heat pad at night. Pseudoephedrine. Hot showers/ear spray. Praying. The ringing in my ear is driving me nuts.
Lazarus: I'll try that. Palmer is a long way away. Wish I was there for some harvesting. Thanks.
Miss Emerita: Neilmed, I'll look that up. My right sinus does plug all the time. I don't know why. Thanks
Deborah K: re central apnea. WOW, I'll often thought my Doctor made a mistake prescribing the machine I have. Thanks for that catch.
re sleep study. I'll have to figure out how to get that. I live in Southeast Alaska and my last study was done in Anchorage.
re OSCAR. I've been seeing that word here and lightly wondered why I kept seeing that. I'll check into it.
Anyhow, thank you all for offering me some help. Hearing is something we all take for granted and don't appreciate it until we don't have it. My left ear kind of gurgles now and then which gives me hope that this is temporary. I pray it is......

Absolutely. Maybe (hopefully) its just a buildup of ear wax?

Under the HIPPA law, you are entitled to a copy of any of your mecal records. This is not optional on you provider. Tell them you want a copy for you personal medical file. Its none of their business why you want it. If they hem and haw, demand it pursuant to HIPPA law.

While it's true you are entitled to a copy of your records keep in mind the providers also have 30 days to comply and some places require a written request - they should have a form you fill out but I would get copy of that also if there is a delay. For reason I always just say "Continued Care".clownbell wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 7:11 pmCzrojze

I believe in this case the OP simply wants his hearing restored.
I find it easier to ask for a copy at each visit.

Re: Lost hearing - HELP!
Update:
I went to see my health provider and she found I had a ruptured ear drum. I have no idea how that happened but I woke up with it.
I was given ofloxacin opthalmic and it is helping big time. I thank God for this medicine. She says about the weeks and my ear drum will be fine. Yay
Thanks to all of you who answered my call for information and help. Thank you to this forum.
