Oxygen making me more tired

Post by Architect » Fri Aug 12, 2022 1:06 am

I began 2L oxygen 2 nights ago, great news is I've slept both nights more then 8 hours with no awakenings. Prior to that, if I slept more then 6 hrs, less then 3 awakenings, it be a miracle. Oxygen therapy is working, but oddly I feel more tired. Haven't slept this deeply approx a year.

Anyone on oxygen experience fatigue in the beginning, did the fatigue improve over time. Thanks for feedback.

I started oxygen 3 months ago, sleeping only. I'm on 2L. my first month I was tired. it lasted for about 3 week. after that I felt a lot better. now I feel like a new man. I still get up once to go to the bathroom. my 02 stays up in the middle 90s most of the night. if I get any drops they stay up around 90 but once in a while I get a stray drop around 88. oxygen has improved my health. it will do the same for you. give it time.

Architect - have you looked at Oscar since starting the 02?

No experience with O2, but when I finally started getting good sleep with CPAP I seemed to be more tired all the time. I think I was craving that good sleep, and it took a while to not feel that way anymore. Some people might describe this as "Paying the sleep debt" but I'm not sure I believe in that.

In any case, it bears mentioning to your doctor in case something else is going on.

Thanks Julie. Looking at it now, prior to 02 no event flags occasional 1 or 2. Since beginning 02 I developed hypopnea.

Aug 9 AHI 0.00 - hypop 0.0
Aug 10 AHI 0.35 - hypop .12
Aug 11 AHI 1.03 - hypop .23
Aug 12 AHI .88 - hypop .11

Aug 11 had most flags 7 OA flags, 2 hypop. I was thinking I'm sleeping alot longer 8 hrs finally, so more data is collected, prior sleep 3-6 hrs. Been busy lately, but will try to upload image later for Aug 11.

Thanks friend, very true, since 02 I've been sleeping alot deeper and longer, probably have to readjust.

Hard to come to any conclusions after two nights of bleeding in oxygen. Do you have a pulse oximeter that can record? I would see what your oxygen levels are doing throughout a night of sleep with the O2 added. Either way, if you make a change that drastically changes your sleep patterns, I would expect it should take your body time to adjust.

Thanks friend, don't have a recorded oximeter. Believe my system needs time to adjust. I'm sleeping alot longer/deeper then in the past.

@ Architect - Could this be a case of coincidence vs causation? Just because 2 things happen at the same time does not necessarily mean that one caused the other. The experts are data driven and can only offer meaningful advice if they have data to review. Install OSCAR and record your data, then post a chart or two here. The experts may be able to spot problems which just happened to occur coincident with your being on O2,

I agree with the other posters saying that it takes a while. Patience and perseverence are key.

FWIW, I am skeptical of the notion of "sleep debt" but I can see a theory about being overdrawn. In my mind, it's like a bank account. You can only withdraw for so long before you have to make a deposit. Getting on CPAP is like beginning to make deposits. You have to have enough deposits in order to restore your bank account to a healthy balance. Just my view though.

Hello friend, thanks so much. Unfortunately no abnormalities with Myair and Oscar. My fatigue can be caused by an existing health disorder, specifically thyroid hormone imablance/type II diabetes. Not having any specific answers, always has me brainstorming for answers.

Pertaining to sleep debt, don't know much about subject. My theory has always been consistency is key to success :D
