Treating UARs need guidance!

Post by Zolty123 » Mon Aug 08, 2022 7:02 am

Hi- this might be some sort of long post but I want to give you guys background on what I am doing.

I’m male 21 weighing 170 so it’s definitely a genetic issue. From the age of 17 I have gotten increasingly tired with IBS getting worse until when I was 19 I couldn’t take it anymore and thought I needed to see a doctor. From there I undertook a sleep study where doctors found nothing saying they couldn’t help me.

I thought they were being ignorant so I did some sled research and got my dentist to get me an oral device due to my smaller than usual mouth. I was still really tired but my IBS problems went away which was huge.

It was from here I first suspected I had uars as I had none of the indications of having normal osa and the another sleep study this past October confirmed I don’t have regular osa.

This past February I got an ent to do an endoscopy who said I probably have uars and gave me basically a prescription for any machine I want (he wasn’t able to help me further as it’s not his specialty and I think he on gave me the prescription because he felt bad). This coming Monday I am flying to Houston to undergo a uars sleep study with a dr Gerald Simmons who I have heard is the foremost expert on this.

When it comes to self treating I had been using a asv bipap (philips respironics) which helped a lot until it broke at which time I switched to a dream station bipap, which I don’t think helps that much but it could just be my settings. I am currently at work but when I get home I’ll post the data from Oscar regarding these machines.

I am going to be honest this disease is incredibly hard to live with I am always tired and I really could you some guidance.

Many thanks!

Might be nice if you kept your questions to one thread and answered the questions you were asked in the other thread.

Since it sounds like you are having a sleep study done next week specifically looking for confirmation of UARS which I assume means you will be doing an in lab sleep study with the Pes device.....might as well wait and see what they find or don't find.

It could also be epigenetics. But doesn't matter for now. At the moment, you need a proper diagnosis and an effective treatment.
