Stuff of nightmares

Post by lynninnj » Sat Jul 30, 2022 2:07 pm

:D

I saw a thread about keeping bugs out of your CPAP machine. I saw a lot of smart ass remarks up there too. Lol

I actually had that nervous thought before I got my CPAP machine a few weeks ago because we have a ton of earwigs on the property this year for some reason. I actually found a couple of them on my bedside table over the last few months.

I was not wholly surprised last night when I found an earwig found its way into my mask. Of course the mask was on my face and turned on!

after some proper freaking out running out of the room without my glasses so I couldn’t even see the stupid earwig, I did finally managed to get it out and clean out the cushion because that was the only way I was going to get back to sleep.

I do appreciate whoever posted the comment about putting a mesh bag around the CPAP machine. I have some nice ones that I bought for buying produce. I will be using one of the big ones rather than the mesh bags I have for laundry delicates.

And I won’t be getting my favorite CPAP machine all set up and ready for bed unless she’s all wrapped up.

Oh and our house looks like an Alford Hitchcock movie with all of the lady bugs come fall. I have a feeling that I’m gonna be on bug lookout all year long.

I hope this helps someone avoid the stuff that nightmares are made of.

ICK!

Glad to have this board and all of the support.

Are you sure they aren't:

Asian lady beetles

Even though Asian lady beetles look like ladybugs, they sure don’t act like them! First and foremost, ladybugs don’t sneak into your home the way Asian lady beetles do. While ladybugs overwinter in sheltered sites outdoors, Asian lady beetles often enter homes.

If you notice the bugs congregating in or around your home in fall or winter, they’re probably Asian lady beetles. So, if you think you need ladybug pest control, you actually need Asian lady beetle pest control services.

Another obvious way to identify an Asian Lady Beetle is by the smell. When they feel threatened, they may excrete a foul-smelling, yellow liquid from their leg joints. This excretion is called “reflex bleeding” and can also happen when they are crushed. Reflex bleeding isn’t dangerous, but it can stain walls and fabrics or trigger minor allergic reactions. :?

The Asian name probably means invasive--therefore not endangered.
You have my permission to slay them without mercy.
Don't bother saving any for me--I only eat local insects.

Definitely would not want to eat these nasty, smelly and uninvited pests. They get every where, hide until spring then swarm the house all over again trying to get back outside. They get in thru even the smallest cracks, one would never think they could possibly fit through. :(

I read on here someone using a nylon pantyhose for something else. Seems like that would be a could cover for your mask too.

Good news: I just looked up "swallowing spiders in your sleep"--
and there is no concrete proof this has actually happened.
Old wives' tale--creepy, and cruel.
Now, alewives . . . That is creepy!

I have something similar to this and it is a lot less work than pantyhose.

https://www.amazon.com/Reusable-Produce ... NrPXRydWU=

It has a nice toggle to pull it snug around the cord.

Thanks for all the laughs guys.

Julie, you should use your powers for good, not evil. lol

Yup, this is what they are. I didn't want to sound too fancy saying ours are european. They stink like crazy.

I think the produce bag will be a godsend. It is large enough to easily slip over the entire machine, with or without the water chamber in it and will keep everything out.

One more crappy step to do every day but whatever. It will keep dust off of it also so there is that.

I can't imagine how much I would hate life if I had to smell that crap in my cpap every night. Them and stink bugs are about equal on the gross scale.

Hmmmm....making me wonder if what I see every fall are Asian or the real deal.
Never noticed them stinking though and always assumed they were normal ladybugs who eat aphids so I left them alone.
Next time I see one I will look more closely and try to figure it out.
