Thanks again, but it sounds like you and I are saying very near identical things, that is the incremental pressure increase (following the original OA) is intended to prevent the tissue sagging into the airway. That incremental pressure may or may not be sufficient to prevent future tissue sag (occlusions).

Right?
The point of contention is whether the APAP can or cannot clear OAs. Not whether APAP can or cannot prevent OAs.

They categorically cannot clear OAs.

They can prevent OAs once they manage to increase pressure to the necessary level for the patient.

This is not a "quibble". Incremental pressure increase may also occur when "partial obstructions" -- hypopneas or flow limitations -- are indentified. Not only when an obstructive apnea occurs.
Yes. I am aware that APAP algo reacts to events other than OAs.

But the point remains that APAPs try to prevent FUTURE events.

They do not try to redress ONGOING events.

I thought that contention was resolved when I read the following, in response to your explanation:

Thanks, that makes sense.
The original OA only gets resolved by an arousal (initiated by the brain) - that clears the “sagging tissue” .
Then the APAP increases the pressure to hopefully splint (stabilize) that tissue to prevent further OAs.

I know you are. My clarification was meant for Tec5.

Good discussion. I learned something. I went back and looked at SH and Oscar charts back in time. I never really noticed it before that the pressure increased just after an apnea ended and that the now I know that the brain was doing the job of breaking up an apnea. The machine obviously continues its work to manage holding open the airway during the sleep session. Thinking back to my original sleep study with results of 31 per hour while looking at my average AHI of 1.81 for the past year, I am happy with the overall results. I found out last night, through experiment, that I cannot deal with EPR, at any level, due to centrals recorded. This may be better discussed in a separate thread.

or maybe,if you would like, stay here. that way folks can see your history easily.

BTW, Tec5, by the nature of your questions, it sounds like you are an engineer, Amiright?
HA! nailed it. Engineer by training and profession (40 years), coupled with 20 years avocation as community Paramedic and another 6 years deployed in the ME sandbox. The engineering background probably is the most irritating for many people because I tend to want to know the why and how something works, rather than just be satisfied with the outcome.
20 years Paramedic, trained me to understand that the same procedures don't always work with everyone.
6 years deployed trained me to realize that there often is a huge gap between the best laid plans and actual execution.

Tec5 - if you want to understand the why and the how, roll up your sleeves and do your OWN homework. Invest the effort to educate yourself. Read the CPAP wiki. Read the "new users" info. Read the "announcements" section at the top of the main page. Don't expect others to do your homework for you.

And your comment was really helpful as well. Thank you for such enlightening words.

Have a nice day.

a quick browse through the forum will show just the opposite.
