Newb needs help. Exhaling issues
Day 2 ramp settings working good.
Another victory!
Changed the auto ramp to 8.4 and fell right to sleep. Slept good for 4:32 and woke up to go to the bathroom.
Added a travel neck pillow and tried to go back to sleep two different times after that. Didn't work so well but I think it was definitely a win!
The travel pillow was pushing on my mask and made my lower teeth hurt on the third try. No biggie- There was a pretty good leak going on for a while but nothing I can't work on.
Still very tired but I seem to be a little less foggy this morning.
Woohoo!

The SleepHQ link and OSCAR graph are two different nights.

Probably worth noting *again*, that the Apneas flagged on your SleepHQ graphs are being flagged at the wrong time.
SleepHQ is presenting the graphs according to the viewers local time, but the Apneas are not being shifted correctly.
I'm only seeing the last three events and they are not being displayed at the right time mark.

Re: Auto Ramp- Ghost In The Machine
It was about the same as the night before. Fell right to sleep using the auto ramp but woke up early and never really went back to sleep. Way better than it has been but still working.
I was a distance runner a lifetime ago. I am prepared for the "long run"
Stella?
Hope you are having a great day. Thanks for always checking on me.

Just an update
Good morning and happy Friday
The numbers are getting better.
The brain fog was bad yesterday. Really no worse than usual but I have been having less foggy days.
Forgot several things throughout the day, one of them was to put the SD card back in the machine before I went to bed. I woke up last night for a bathroom break and remembered and put the SD card back in for the second sleep. I was able to see the nights complete data on the machine this morning when I woke up.
Slept 6:36
AHI 2.5
Leak 19L/min
I just have two questions today (GASP)
What is an "acceptable" leak rate? is there a general or target number it should be below?
The machine say my mask seal was great last night.
I have a second about question but will post that a little later.
I hope everyone is having a great Friday so far.

Re: Newb needs help. Exhaling issues
Well....it comes with the "it depends" qualification. It depends on if the leak has disturbed your sleep or not. It depends on just how much time someone spent in large leak territory and it depends on just how deep in large leak territory they went to.
The leak number off the LCD screen for one night is the 95% number which just means AT OR BELOW that number for 95% of the night. ResMed's line in the sand for large leak territory is 24 L/min and IMHO that's an ultra conservative line in the sand. I do think that the machines can do a decent job compensating, recording and responding to leaks up to around 30 to 35 L/min area.
Things don't go immediately deep in the toilet if someone hits 29 L/min...it's a gradually worsening of things the further you go past 24 L/min.
So a
coming off the LCD screen that didn't wake me up or annoy me...I would shrug my shoulders and move on and not bat an eyelash over it.
Now if any leak, no matter how big or little, disturbs my sleep then we have a different discussion.

I hope they keep getting better and you start to really feel a difference. My leaks spiked a bit into the 20s but didn't stay there but it may* have aroused me from sleep so there's that. So if you were not woken up, then like pugsy said it sounds like you are doing fine.
How's the brain fog?
You sound pretty chipper this morning and just getting 7ish hours more or less with a mask on is huge for you. YAY!

Re: Just an update
I could sure use some of that. I used to buy it in 6 packs at the Q Mart.
Remember... you asked so here goes....
I am pretty chipper today. Just one big ray of sunshine.
As far as the brain fog goes, it is very hard to explain. Some days it is sever and other days it is not so bad. I think the best example I can give you is this:
The other morning when I was in the shower, I finished doing my thing, rinsed off, turned the water off and instead of reaching for my towel that is over the shower door to dry off, the same place it always is, I just opened the door and got out. It took a few seconds of standing in the bathroom dripping wet to realize what I did.
Last weekend I took my meds out of the cabinet in the kitchen and placed the daily Sunday through Saturday container thingy on the counter. I walked through the kitchen and the dining room to the extra fridge where the water is kept on top. I did not take a bottle of water from on top of the fridge but opened the fridge door and took a pickle from a jar and went outside to do some stuff in the yard. It wasn’t until hours later that my wife asked why I didn’t take my meds. She watched me take the pickle and thought nothing of it at the time. I had no recollection of taking or eating the pickle.
Twice I have gone in to brush my teeth, put toothpaste on my toothbrush and walked out of the bathroom. I go back later and find my unused toothbrush on the counter.
At work some days are terrible. I am surrounded by sticky notes. I have had phone conversations, hung up the phone and have no idea who or what was talked about. Exaggerations? Nope- not in the least. Some days it takes an hour to write an email. Reading, re-reading and changing. Then not remembering I sent it at all. I can see it here in my posts. It is very frustrating to know what I want to say and be unable to express it clearly.
So how is the brain fog? Not good.
There is a lot more to it than that but those are the best examples I can give.
Doc says it is cognitive and not dementia or anything to be worried about but it terrifies me to not be able to remember things or not even know I did something or when it happens. I was told that once the anemia and sleep apnea is under control, I should be as good as new. We shall see. It has been almost 3 months since my original diagnosis. The sleep is definitely getting better the past few nights, I am still very tired and still have serious memory issues, but I will continue to try to make sense of this and make it work.
Other than that, I am right as rain. LOL.

Qmart -snickers-
I started here the same day as you and cpap general around the same time. Its taken me until about last week to really feel good consistent relief and I figure you are about 4 weeks behind me (I had plenty of good days before that but now it’s consistent). It might sound far off but it’s not.
That said- don’t hate me but it was so good today with 6 arousals all night the I feel like I am on speed without the jitters and heart palpitations.
Good luck!

You beat me here by 2 hours
Good grief! I know I am just a weirdo on the other end of a keyboard but I would never hate you. You are like an old friend, I have never met. Or something like that.
I am so happy for how well you are doing (Even though I am failing miserably) Hahaha. I am very happy for you and I am also very glad you did not have to go through what I am working through.
I really like reading about your success and other peoples too. It gives me hope and a desire to keep mucking along. I am starting to see results. I know the goodness is coming. Turning on auto ramp for me was the game changer.
I say this with all sincerity, I am so happy for you and your 6 arousals and your jitterless speed too. I hope you feel like that everyday and I hope you keep sharing it and your positivity. It's like Franks Redhot. Put that sh*t on everything!

F&P Question
Question 2 for the day... You guys tired of my nonsense yet?
Do any of you know anything about the venting on the F&P Fisher & Paykell nasal masks?
I started using the F&P Evora FFM 2 weeks ago and I mostly LOVE it. It solved my exhaling issues completely and I breathe freely in and out while it is on my face. The reason I say mostly is because sometimes when my head is at a funny angel and my pillow pushes on the mask, it makes my bottom teeth hurt. Not anything serious or that doesn’t stop right away but very annoying. If it wasn’t for this, this mask would be absolutely 100% perfect.
The Evora is very similar to the AirFit F30 in size and design except the venting on the Evora mask is very forceful out the front. It blows all the time breathing in and out.
I love this and it is very comforting to me.
Although it is not a very big full-face mask, it still covers my mouth just like the F30
My question is this:
Do the F&P nasal masks vent the same way? I really like the nasal masks or pillows where my mouth is not covered, and I have no trouble breathing out my nose.
The Evora has a flap on the frame where the hose connects that moves back and forth as I breathe In and out. This I think blocks the incoming air as I exhale and lets me breathe out.
Whatever it is, it is wonderful.
I have tried the AirFit N30 again since starting with the Evora and when the pressure of the machine raises up, I still have trouble exhaling through my nose and makes me feel like I can’t breathe again. I am thinking of buying one of the F&P nasal masks but wanted to ask to see if any of you have any recommendations or experience with the venting.
TIA
