Newbie here with Dream Station 1 Question.

Post by Sartman » Thu Jul 14, 2022 9:27 am

I have been lurking for a while. learned so much. So many kind helpful people here. When I received my refurbished BiPap machine, after the recall. my settings were set on Auto B
25 Ipap Max
4 Epap Min
PS 2 Min
PS 8 Max
Wow. Such a range. felt awful . With reading here and with trial and error I set it tighter manually and this morning I have felt the best I have for a long time in my trial. Sleep was less fragmented. Didn't have to use the bathroom every 2 hours etc. (Prior my O2 was dipping into the mid 80s.) Held around 92 or 93 No raging headache and shakiness. Some fatigue but a much less rapid heartbeat Upon waking.Such a difference having sufficient oxygen at night
Settings last night
IPap14 Max
EPap 9 Min
PS 2 Min
PS 4 Max
My AHI was 1.2
IPap 90% 13
EPap 90% 10.5

During my trial and error and waiting for a new sleep study and a new Pulmonologist I had my Bluetooth off and and card out. Anyhow I need to get my card in for compliance issues. Short story long. LoL I want to try to duplicate my Auto Mode to something similar to what was set. # If that makes sense # to justify a new sleep study and possibly a new machine. I Am afraid of being questioned as to my set manual changes
An ideas as what to try to rest it to?.. 25 Max IPap and 4 Min EPap seems ridiculous. And I'm sure I will regret the change.. Whoever set this up must have been an idiot. Complained to to my doc. But. Was a heavy smoker and am cutting back immensely. some last blood work indicated low O2. blamed it all on smoking and being overweight,
Agree that smoking is stupid and am on my way to becoming smoke free. but I do blame sh@tty settings also Last night pulse ox readings were proof Hope this all makes sense. Just an idea of the wider range original settings . PS. I have an Android and can't use Oscar. Used Phillips Dream mapper and it's worthless. Thanks in advance for anyone's help and apologize for the long post

It's not the range that's the problem, is the absurdly low MinEPAP that was the problem. it's too low for almost everyone, and a sign of lazyness or incompetence on the part of any doctor that orders one to be set that way.

I'd leave the MaxIPAP at 25, because it doesn't hurt anything to have it higher, lowering it just prevents the machine from responding to any unusual needs you might have during the night.

Yes, you need to have the card in the machine to get all the data, (I think).

I've got nothing to do with Microcenter, but they are selling a very capable notebook for very little money (I bought one and many of the people in my ham club have also).

Thank you for your input. I really appreciate it. Best guess to mimic those settings that worked for? 20 Ipap 11 epap? Pressure support ??? before I put my card back in. Once again. . I cannot handle questions on my manual settings before I get approved for a study. Honestly. I am so over being questioned about other people's incompetence I am so frazzled and sleep deprived. I can't function

The most important number is your minepap, that's the lowest pressure the machine will go to, and it's the pressure that holds your airway open so you can take another breath. If the minepap is too low, then the machine won't hold your airway open, and you won't be able to breathe... unfortunately, many people don't understand that simple fact.
