So I think I need to find a temperature setting that is humid enough for me but also doesn’t result in condensation accumulating up to the point where I wake up with the gurgling sound.
No....you find a humidity setting you like and THEN you adjust hose air temperature setting so that it is comfortable and prevents condensation with your preferred humidity setting.

And yes...auto setting for humidity isn't really all that high...it's a middle of the road setting and about equal to a manual setting of 4 and the machine can go to 8 humidity setting. I love the 8 humidity setting but damn...I can't get the air warm enough to prevent condensation and I hate the hot air anyway. I don't want to increase bedroom temps either...
Princess and the pea situation here.
I did add the short hose cozy (from the end of the heated hose to the mask on the face) and that lets me use a slightly lower hose air temp than the max of 86 degrees and still avoid condensation. Still can't use setting of 8 but setting of 6 does a decent enough job for me.

Interesting. When I had the condensation buildup I had the temperature almost at 77. When I said it back to auto that problem went away. Maybe I’m mistaken.

I feel like I’m learning how to operate or become a mechanic for a new car! :-)

Other major question right now is how do I deal with the face skin irritation issue. I’ve bought some lotion, some face wash, and I’m cleaning off the nose mask every night. Other than that maybe my skin just needs to get toughened to it.

You changed the hose air temp to "auto" is that correct?
Auto in terms of the hose air temp usually increases the hose air temp to around 81 degrees or so.
That would explain why the condensation went away with the change to "auto"....you actually increased the hose air temp from 77 degrees to around 81 degrees or so.

For skin issues...start with Lansinoh lanolin ointment/cream. It's the first go to skin treatment especially when the mask is irritating the skin.
Found in the baby aisle...in the section where nipples and pacifers and bottles are found. Nursing mom's use it.

Use sparingly at bedtime but generously during the day. Promotes healing and adds a nice healthy barrier between skin and silicone.

ohhhh interesting. That is so counter-intuitive to me. So the lower the temp, the more condensation, but the higher the Temp the less?

I feel like death eating a cracker today. I know I was half conscious a lot last night. Don't know why. All I remember was I felt a lot of energy yesterday and thus more at bedtime, so I wasn't all the way sleepy.

Crazy question. I went to my PCP about this years ago after it started. And it coincided with waking up a lot at night, Apnea. Muscle twitching. I have had it for over 2 years now. PCP thought it was anxiety. But anytime I don't sleep well I get them. Shifts. Could be legs. eyes. arm. hand. anywhere. Just random twitching. I wonder if that is from sleep deprivation. Hopefully tonight will better sleep!

Condensation happens when the air (anywhere) has cooled to the point it can no longer hold onto the moisture in the air.
It's Physics in action.
Or when the air simply has so much moisture in it that it can't retain it....hence rain.
When condensation is occurring....warm up the air where the condensation is happening....like in the hose.

Many years ago (13 plus) when I started cpap there wasn't really a viable heated hose option. Only heated hose was a stand alone heated hose from Australia and it cost 150 buck plus shipping.
It wasn't until the ResMed S9 model series was released that they offered an integrated heated hose.
I went 4 years without a heated hose...preferring a cold bedroom and lots of humidity added to my cpap air.
In the winter I battled rain out/condensation all the time. To me one of the best improvements in cpap has been the integrated heated hose.

You didn't sleep well last night. You remember a lot of awakenings which means you probably had a bunch you don't remember. It is to be expected that you don't feel real chipper.
Like I always say....there's more to feeling those good numbers than just getting them.

Good points. I think I am using the heated hose. There were two.I used the one that was labeled heated. I am really looking forward to using this for a month, having follow up appointments, and being told I do NOT have Narcolepsy. I think at that point it would be easier for me to deal with fatigue. I think learning that diagnosis has made me feel broken, or rather my brain. I have pre-existing mental health issues I am in therapy for. So I will continue to work on that.

I guess my issue is I don’t know what is normal. I feel so tired on days like this that I feel sick. My muscles ache. I have bad brain fog, my muscles twitch. My whole body is heavy. Can that just be apnea? I mean I know plenty of people that get 6-8 hours a night and function fine and don’t feel exhausted to the point of collapse. What is normal?

I don't know if all those symptoms are related solely to sleep apnea or not...they could be but they could also be any other number of things especially if you have battled depression or similar mental health issues then that can also perhaps be a factor.

I will tell you this that I have experienced bone crushing fatigue when I don't get enough sleep and so tired that I am sick to my stomach. Now the reason I don't get enough sleep is related to other problems and not apnea....but fatigue is fatigue no matter what the cause.

You aren't getting good sleep right now...way too many awakenings.
Is it all related to sleep apnea or maybe a combination of sleep apnea and something else????
We simply don't know for sure at this point.
What you have to do is deal with what is known for sure right now (the sleep apnea) and once you have been on cpap for a period of time or so then you evaluate things and see if something else still needs to be improved on.

Fix what you know needs fixing now....worry about the other stuff later.

And don't go asking me how long....we have no way to know for sure but that doesn't mean you can still try to work on figuring out why you aren't sleeping so good while you are giving things time.

Keep a log...so you can refer back to it.
Like last night you know you didn't sleep so great and today you sure don't feel so great.
Night before last you at least felt like you slept better and yesterday during the day you did feel a little better.
I can tell you right now that how you feel in general is significantly tied to your overall sleep quality....that is normal and to be expected. The idea is to hopefully get where the bad nights are rare and you mostly have good nights.

You have only been on cpap 4 nights now...take 2 more patience pills.
30 day minimum before we really start digging deep on whatever symptoms are leftover after treating the airway issues.
You have to give your body a chance to adjust to all this new stuff....it's critical and that adjustment simply takes time.

I know I know :-) We have to deal with one issue at a time.

Slept so so last night. Was awake a lot first half of the night, or so it felt like. I had the gurgling issue again. I had set the machine to 76 degrees. Woke up with the gurgling sound. Set it back to auto, and it solved itself. So I will keep it on auto. Went back to sleep and was in deep REM. Early morning is always intense deep REM for me.

yay! now, try to stay with your current settings for a day or so. let your body get used to this before making any other changes.

Actually I want him to stay the course for 30 days at these settings. They are working in terms of apnea prevention.
95% of his flagged events aren't asleep events anyway...they are centrals because of awake irregular breathing false positives.

concur completely. saw them centrals and knew more pressure wouldn't help. but wanted billy to at least get two nights under his belt so he could start to see a wee bit of improvement.
