Disabling cellular signal on Resmed Airsense 11
Hi all! First post. Was just diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea, and have an Airsense 11 on the way. I'm interested in disabling the cellular signal. I'm not getting this through insurance so no need to worry about compliance. Don't like the idea of having a machine monitoring me, and have heard the auto mode is sufficient. I would really appreciate it if someone could clue me in on how to disable the cellular signal on this device. An internet search showed me that a few people have posted "How-to's" on the Airsense 10, but not on the 11.
Thank you all in advance!!

Two things are drastically wrong with that statement.
- Auto mode is not sufficient. It needs to have its minimum pressure adjusted to a value close to where your pressure needs to be. Depending on your shipped settings, your maximum may also need increasing and there can be cases where the maximum and/or EPR need to be lowered. That statement is wrong and silly.
- You accepting something that you "heard" as being accurate and just accepting it.

Hi Dog Slobber,
I realize that I'm going to make some inaccuracies as I am new to CPAPs. However, given the research I've done, I know there are other people interested in this. In fact, there is a video on youtube with over 10k views which addresses this and offers a solution for the Airsense 10. Here is the link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCE4n1uKX98&t=91s
Despite your objections, I would be very thankful on a solution to this for the Airsense 11. Thank you for taking the time to reply to my message, even if you think my statement is wrong and silly. I can certainly start with the cellular signal intact until the machine tailors its settings to me, then disconnect the signal. From what I have read, airplane mode won't work as the machine continuously asks whether you are still on an airplane and need it in that mode.
Yours truly,

I'm chatting with this Aussie, Nick, who has the youtube channel "CPAP reviews". You can see our conversation in this link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1C7pxg3PM8
He says he's going to do a tutorial video in the coming weeks on how to modify the PCB to disconnect the cellular modem and antenna. You can see our discussion in the comments section. I have the device opened up as he showed in the video but have no electronics knowledge. Would appreciate some help from anyone that can assist. And btw, yes I'm hearing what you're saying about this not being a good idea, but if there is a reversible fix that I can try, can always go back to the factory default.
Thanks all

I never said your statement about an AirSense 10 is wrong. I said your statement about auto mode being sufficient was wrong.
I don't know how you could interpret what I said as you did, given:
I specifically quoted the statement I referenced.
I explained why Auto Mode is not sufficient.
Not only did I specifically not say the modem could not be removed from the AirSense 10, I didn't even say it couldn't be removed from an AirSense 11. What I said was "To date, I haven't seen an Air 11 teardown video that identifies the modem and disconnects it.".
That doesn't mean it can't be done, it means the method of removing it hasn't been done. I have taken apart (right to the bones), numerous Air 10s. I can remove the modem connection on an Air 10 with my eyes closed.
Here is a photo of the underside of an Air 11 motherboard, the highlighted chip on the right is the modem. One can't tell from this photo, or any of the photos available to me whether it's soldered or in a socket. I *think* it's in a socket.
But like i said before, to date, I haven't seen an Air 11 teardown video that identifies the modem and disconnects it.. It took years for a good Air 10 modem removal video to appear, the Air 11 is less than a year old and removing the modem is obviously more difficult.
And why do you think I would have any objections to you or anybody removing their modem? Once again, nothing in my post suggested anything of the sort.
I do have one caution though, the Air 11 has already had at least one OTA firmware update, and the documentation suggests it will be a *somewhat* regular occurrence. Removing the modem may make OTA updates impossible.

Pailrider was commenting that machines don't work that way, regarding they don't tailor their settings to you, and you interpreted him to mean, it not being a good idea.
I hope when you attempt to mod your device, you pay better attention than you do in this thread.

Ok buddy, no need to be offensive. Like I said at the beginning, I'm brand new at this, and know very little about electronics. Aggressively rude comments from you aside, thanks for pointing out a possible solution, and for your time.
Cheers

Wrong. Saying "it simply does not work that way" implies I'm doing something wrong.. therefore not a good idea. I don't need any lessons from you in logic or language, thank you. And, btw, go back and read my first post where I asked a question very humbly and your answer to it. Please try to learn some manners.Dog Slobber wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 6:57 pmLOL, you did it again.sleepyhead22 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 6:09 pmI'm chatting with this Aussie, Nick, who has the youtube channel "CPAP reviews". First and foremost if insurance is not buying this cpap who do you think will be monitoring you?sleepyhead22 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 10:55 amWas just diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea, and have an Airsense 11 on the way. Who do you think will set this up and attach your name to this cpap?
Someone would have to set it up for any thing to be upload for the app to work.
If you don't use the app who will even know you have this cpap?
Couple of thoughts...
Consider using an A10 (or another cpap) which you have the video to disable the modem.
Consider using OSCAR to check your daily events - Oscar is not uploaded anywhere besides your laptop or other computer which you would do manually - NO Modem required.
So I think you are worried needlessly.
A word of caution...
If you know nothing about electronics and screw something up, even with a video, you can completely disable the cpap.
btw - Welcome to the zoo.

Re: Disabling cellular signal on Resmed Airsense 11
The things you misunderstood had *nothing* to do with electronics or being new to this.sleepyhead22 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 8:43 pmOk buddy, no need to be offensive. It had everything to do with you just reading past what I (and palerider) actually said.
You made a statement about the behaviour of these devices. And that's OK, it's expected, no problem.
But nobody said *anything* suggesting the modems should be taken out. Your responses had absolutely nothing to do with what we said. This has nothing to with being new to CPAP, nor not knowing anything about electronics.
You want to know what I think is rude, coming to a forum asking some questions, then when people answer your questions, completely disregard what they said and then actually go to great effort to prove a strawman wrong. Go look up what a strawman is.
And when you're done looking up strawman, look up passive aggressive.

He's posting under the name Arash Kamangir.
He's the guy who knows nothing about electronics, but is concerned about the cellular signal radiation. He's also the guy who is claiming that he's got his machine opened up, but in this topic, makes the claim he's still expecting the machine to arrive.

Re: Disabling cellular signal on Resmed Airsense 11
Thanks, I have other personal reasons as well. If there is a safe way to do it that is reversible, I'm willing to try. Not great at electronics, but I can follow instructions well enough. Just got the machine today and have it opened up down to the motherboard, using the youtube video I sited above as reference.SleepGeek wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 9:04 pmFirst and foremost if insurance is not buying this cpap who do you think will be monitoring you?sleepyhead22 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 10:55 amWas just diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea, and have an Airsense 11 on the way. Once again, you being incredibly rude, like every other post you placed in this thread.... I'll try to disregard it, as some people are just that way.
The cinterion chip appears to be soldered on. I confirmed that this chip is normally used for LTE and 3G connectivity, but the fact that it is soldered makes it much more involved than just removing it and seeing what happens.
