Cpap erased anxiety

Post by Solrac08 » Mon Jun 27, 2022 7:28 pm

Has anyone experienced anxiety before they started using the cpap and then once they used it the cpap helped get rid of the anxiety?

Do you mean anxiety disorder ? I don't have anxiety disorder, but was anxious to get started on my pap therapy.

Yes, not cured, but much better.

WHY?

With sleep apnea, every time you stop breathing, your body secretes stress hormones like adrenalin and cortisol to try to get you breathing again. When Sleep apnea is untreated, you bathe in stress hormones all night long. As your apnea is treated, the amount of stress hormones in your body decreases, and you are less anxious as a result.

But first, you have to get over the anxiety of learning to sleep with the CPAP. It's not easy at first, but persistence is key.

You can do other things for anxiety as well--meditation and relaxation exercises really help, too.

Yes, the root cause of anxiety is often untreated sleep apnea. Successful treatment with CPAP can resolve the anxiety.

From a study at Isfahan University of Medical Sciences:
The correlation of anxiety and depression with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome

Conclusion: Our study showed that the frequency of anxiety in OSAS patients is higher than in the general population regardless of the gender. Furthermore, it is more likely that OSAS patients present with anxiety and depression than the typical symptoms.

It's true that getting used to the CPAP machine can be a bit of a challenge at first, but sticking with it pays off big time. I've noticed a significant difference in my anxiety levels since starting CPAP therapy. It's like my body isn't constantly on high alert anymore, thanks to those stress hormones taking a back seat.

Hang around and tell others your story. Lots of people come here taking sedatives and anti-depressants when they should have been prescribed CPAP.

Cured my panic attacks! Stick with it to get the full benefits... recovery from years of crappy sleep takes a while.
