Have been using Oscar for a while, and recently been giving Sleep HQ a try. I have noticed that the import process for Sleep HQ has improved over the last couple of months. Today I also noticed a teaser for "Magic Uploader" currently in beta. Since many machines have lost their comm link since 3G has been abandoned, anyone have any details on the Uploader and if it will allow communication from 3G modem CPAP machines?
On Nicko's YT channel he posted a teaser, promoting the upcoming "Magic Uploader".

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/B_WlqgGU61I

He refers to it as WiFi connected, so that rules out Cellular and Bluetooth.

That also means it's going to require hardware. My guess, a WiFi SD Card something like the Toshiba FlashAir. In the comments he references WiFi SD Cards, but then posits SD Cards have a limited range.
Nicko (Youtube comment) wrote:G'day mate, the wifi SD cards only have a very short wifi range so you need something with extra grunt
I'm guessing something like an FYSETC SD-WiFI, with a client running on a mobile device or computer.

Should be interesting how this turns out. :)

I think SleepHQ will overtake Oscar in convenience and possibly even functionality/GUI.

There is an option now for MagicUploader when you click on My Devices tab in SleepHQ.
The Magic Uploader is a new device that will allow you to connect your CPAP machine directly to SleepHQ.

With the Magic Uploader, you will never need to manually upload your data again!

The Magic Uploader is currently in early access with some beta test users.

If you would like to purchase a Magic Uploader, stay tuned for announcements soon about when they will be available.

If you already have a Magic Uploader, you can use the instructions below to connect it to your account.
Once your Magic Uploader has arrived, follow the steps below to connect it to your account:
Plug in the power cable for your Magic Uploader
Your Uploader will now broadcast a wifi network you can connect to
Connect to the wifi network MagicUploader-xxxx using the password configure
Once you are connected to the MagicUploader wifi network, click the link below to visit the Magic Uploader's website.
Follow the instructions on the Magic Uploader's website to configure it and add it to your account.

The lead developer of SleepHQ is @adampallozzi: https://twitter.com/adampallozzi

He's posted a couple tweets describing a "Magic Uploader" project.
@adampallozi (June 21) wrote:Oh no…I’m looking at getting some custom raspberry pi cases 3D printed and now I think I want to buy a 3D printer to experiment with.
@adampallozi (June 18) wrote:Recently I’ve been working on a custom hardware project that will integrate with our Rails app. By far, the hardest part of the project was coming up with the SSID of the network it will broadcast

This suggests:
  • A WiFi SD Card placed in the CPAP device
A Raspberry Pi in close proximity to the CPAP device, interrogating the WiFi SD card. When a new sleep session is detected it downloads them, then uploads them to SleepHQ.
The exact same process could be done for OSCAR usage.

They haven't given too many details of the "magic uploader" but it looks like a Raspberry Pi (or similar) combined with a wireless SD card. It seems the RPi connects to the card then automatically uploads to SleepHQ via wifi. I don't think it affects the cellular modem at all. It all seems like a complex (and probably expensive) solution to the problem of removing an SD card from the machine and plugging it into the computer. It makes some sense if you don't have a computer and rely on a tablet or phone but you'd be surprised how many people on Nicko's FB page seem to need / want this type of gadget.
      * Download Oscar
      * Oscar help
      * An alternative to Oscar - try SleepHQ

I have no medical training or qualifications. Take my advice for what it's worth.

Maybe but some of us older people will never use it simply because of the fact its cloud based. Social media is bad enough I do not want my medical info in the cloud. I am so thankful that sleepy head and now oscar were around when I started my pap journey. If I had to rely on cloud based stuff I would totally have tossed it out the window that first couple of weeks. I am also so glad facebook and the like was not around when I was a teen. I can not imagine the humiliation of high school photo documented to haunt me for the rest of my life. Yearbook photos were bad enough.

Definitely don't go to a healthcare system, hospital, or medical office that uses Epic, Cerner, or Athena. Your information is definitely in the cloud with those EMRs. Come to think of it, LabCorp, Quest, and other labs store your information in the cloud as well.

Great  I try to stay as far away from doctors as I possibly can. I've decided they are all full of crap anyway.

and this last doc stuck me with a huge bill for labwork as he sent me to a lab that they assured me was in network and the lab assured me was in network but apparently they forgot to inform my insurance company because they say nope, so now I'm screwed. Ever since the politicians got involved my health care has gone to crap. I'm so over the screwed up medical system. Have friends telling me I'll get much better care if I cross the border and go to Mexico. Am seriously considering it.

The one really nice thing for my thinking is the fact that it is interactive and I can actually scroll through the flow rate looking for asleep breathing vs awake/arousal breathing at the zoom level that I prefer and I don't have people doing a gazillion screenshots (most at wrong level of zooming) to figure out if they were asleep or not when something was flagged.

There is probably other cool stuff but that's the main thing I saw with SleepHQ that I saw as something that would potentially help a lot.....at least for what I do.

Nick, creator of SleepHQ and Youtube channel CPAP Reviews, just posted a video updating on how the SleepHQ Magic Uploader works.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYr5eqTxFdI

      Things of note:
      • As predicted, Magic Uploader is a WiFi SD Card with a WiFi enabled Raspberry Pi in close proximity to the CPAP/SD Card.
      • The Pi downloads the CPAP data then uploads to SleepHQ
      • The WiFi enabled SD Card demonstrated was an EZ Share 32GB
      • A Card-to-Cloud Air 10 device (without modem), was demonstrated, including placing a modem into it and having it connect to the cell system.
The Magic Uploader is not going to be cheap. At a cost of about $30 for the Wifi SD Card, $40 for the Raspberry Pi, more from Australian based Nick???, and then some kind of markup. It's an expensive solution.

what are the pros and cons of transferring data this way?
I use a WiFi based SD Card (Toshiba FlashAir) and love it.
      Pros:
      • Very convenient
      • Never have to move SD Card from CPAP to Computer and back
      • Never forget SD Card in computer
      • Reduce wear and tear on SD Card and SD Card reader in CPAP
      • No concern about ResMed S9 formatting SD Card
      • Completely automates uploading to SleepHQ
      Cons:
      • Expensive solution (Nicks solution is likely to be more expensive???)
      • Very Limited range on WiFi SD Card. This can translate to slow, unreliable transfer (Nicks solution addresses this???)
      • Finicky to setup and troubleshoot (Nicks solution addresses this???)

you know, that part never occurred to me. it's actually a third incident that happened here zonkerworld. i found that the built in card reader on my laptop is getting flakey. i would have to wiggle the sd card about in order to establish contact.

dug around and i already have a sd card to usb port adapter. so that was the solution for now.

Raspis are basically unobtanium these days. our local microcenter gets in 30-40 of 'em every now and then and they're gone that day.

The form factor on the video looks more like a Raspberry Pi Zero, maybe a Zero W ($10) or a Zero 2 W ($15), so somewhat less powerful and somewhat cheaper than a "desktop replacement" model. But all of them are really hard to source right now (unless you deal with secondary market price gouging), and that is expected to continue at least through 2022.
