OSCAR 1.4.0 Released - June 17, 2022

OSCAR v1.4.0 Release

It's here folks: https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/ with DreamStation 2 support.

The major change in this release is the addition of support for the Philips Respironics DreamStation 2. Other changes have been made as listed below.

We recommend everyone update to this latest version of OSCAR.

Philips Respironics and the DreamStation 2

This time Philips Respironics threw us a curve ball.

Coinciding with a recall for nearly every consumer machine they have built in the last large number of years, Philips released the DreamStation 2, which is unaffected by recall.  The recall was of "All Affected Devices Manufactured Before 26 April 2021, All Device Serial Numbers." Philips Respironics has encrypted the data on the DreamStation 2 so that they can control and monetize that data by making it accessible, for a fee, to their providers only and only with their proprietary system Care-Orchestrator. With considerable effort, the OSCAR team has been able to decrypt the data so that OSCAR can show you the data from your machine.

The changes made by Philips in the DreamStation 2 are harmful to patient empowerment, making it more difficult for you to manage your own sleep apnea therapy.

So far the OSCAR Team has found three major changes made by Philips in the DreamStation 2 devices:
  1. The data on the SD card IS Encrypted purportedly to limit access to the data to clinical personnel ONLY and NOT the end-users, the people who have Sleep Apnea.  As of June 2022, OSCAR can read this data.
  2. There are two levels of the DreamStation 2. First are the "Advanced" models.  These are much more "user friendly" than the "NON-ADVANCED" models. The NON-ADVANCED models can easily be identified via their two-toned cases with blue bottoms.  These "NON-ADVANCED" models truly limit what you can adjust.
  3. The tube temperature of some DreamStation 2 "NON-ADVANCED" models CANNOT be changed by the end-user.  Why?  When asked, a Phillips representative stated, "We are taking away more settings from the user in order to have the 'clinicians' take care of that".  To our current knowledge the DreamStation 2 CPAP and DreamStation 2 Auto CPAP (NON-ADVANCED models) do not have a Providers Menu. Changes to most CPAP settings can only be set via Care Orchestrator Essence, which is not available to the CPAP user.
The above changes are at best disturbing. For end users, the "official" read access to CPAP data is via DreamMapper, which has Summary data and Compliance info only. Detailed data is available only through Care Orchestrator Essence, which is available ONLY for clinical personnel.

Item #1 speaks for itself. All detailed data is encrypted and as such is not available to the end-user from Phillips Respironics. (As noted above, OSCAR can currently access this information).

Item #3 outright says that Philips is taking away access to even basic humidification from the end-users.

Risks:
This is a big one.  This trend within Philips Respironics to make all new devices so that ONLY clinical personnel will have access to your medical data is growing.

Philips Respironics has chosen to make some new devices so that ONLY clinical personnel will be able to change settings on the CPAP with access solely through Care Orchestrator, eliminating the Provider Menu. That appears to have been done on the DreamStation 2 (NOT ADVANCED) devices.

Just got the update. I switched from Phillips Dreamstation 1 to Resmed Airsense 11 on 5/8/22. I can see the data for the Dreamstation but the Airsense data is gone. Not a biggie, when I imported the data from my SD card it restored the missing days.

Upgraded from 1.3.1 and now all records since my device changed three years ago have disappeared/are missing from the profile. The content is still there under OSCAR_Data\Profiles\[profile name] but it doesn't show in the GUI.

The multiple devices do show under Data / Rebuild CPAP Data but that action doesn't do anything.

As a new CPAP user, what is the benefit of using OSCAR over the basic information from the "myair" app? I had my first night with my CPAP last night and the myair app shows 2.6 events per hour with no leakage so I assume that is pretty good? What else would I need to know?

if you are sleeping fine and waking up refreshed, you won't need to know any more.

if you aren't sleeping well, then oscar can provide data that would help pinpoint where your therapy would need improvement.

it's all down to what you want. most of the people who come here want to get the best out of their therapy. for me, if i was getting an ahi of 2.6, i'd be wanting improvement, just to see if it had any impact on my therapy.

you might want to browse the forum where you can see many instances of people posting their oscar charts and getting advice based on those charts.

good luck!

I am waking up refreshed and feeling like II slept well.

Out of curiosity, I am wondering if my oscar statistics are good. I am 11 days into therapy and my first 4 days I had a cold. Is there a place I could post my OSCAR data to have an expert review it? Some highlights are:

AHI - 1.84
OA index - 0.94
H Index 0.11
UA Index - 0
CA index - .79
Average Leak Rate 0.22
95% leak rate - 0
95% pressure - 8.4

I am using nasal pillows so some leakage statistics might be from when I was getting used to the mask and getting it on correctly.

start a brand new post. you may want to call it razor's therapy thread or some such.

Hi...newbie here trying to download OSCAR. I'm running a Macbook using Catalina v10.15 but when I try to install/open OSCAR I get an error message - "OSCAR cannot be opened because developer cannot be verifield. macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware".

Is there a workaround for this?

Hi Alison,
That's quite simple to fix:
Just press CTRL at the same time you launch the App, Then choose "Open" from the list. You should then be able to see more options. Choose "Open"

here is a link about this subject, you'll probably see more options and better explanations here:

Hello, I'm a new user of airsense 11 from Taiwan, I wanted to download the OSCAR 1.4.0, but it shows 403 Forbidden. I could ping www.apneaboard.com, but I could not open the web link https://www.apneaboard.com/OSCAR/OSCAR-1.4.0-Win64.exe . Then I tried to open the web page through VPN, then it worked.

Although I can download the file through VPN now, but the apneaboard blocked users that don't have VPN from Taiwan. Can someone put the OSCAR release to somewhere else than apneaboard?

Wonder if we can get a version supporting Arch Linux. I see every other kind of versions supporting different operating systems. But not Arch Linux. This version is what I use on several machines.
