Baby D, I'm really sorry to hear about the fire, and I hope you get to go back home soon.

Thank you Miss. E. D.S., I put it in airplane mode last night and it didn't change. Keeping fingers crossed it stays that way.

Just thought I would post an update. Since putting it in airplane mode no more waking up to s mode. I don't know who or why on earth someone would mess with the settings but the issue seems to be fixed.

Sun spots?
Scofflaws, using random microwave frequencies for amusement?
Problem solved--no need to understand how, or why.

I think that once I got back to some sort of normal and could use the SD card and OSCAR I would look to see if I could spot any sort of pattern in when the change occurred. Like was it every so many days or something like that.
And was the change always to the exact same settings.
If it was every so often to always the exact same settings then maybe someone somewhere is indeed monitoring these older machines and changing them back to original settings.
There is a record of every change made on that SD card...no matter who makes them and it will show up with the use of OSCAR in the changes to device settings on the Statistics page.

This actually begs the question about these machines security protection. Can they be hacked easily? Since these CPAPs are now remote devices, I would think they would have some sort of security access built in.

I don't think so easily hacked because there's really nothing in the machine that is worth hacking for.
Most hacking is done for monetary reasons.
The only real "security" is the fact that anything done with these machines is based on serial numbers and a person would need to know the serial number to do anything with the machine.
The only place that might know the serial number is going to be the DME selling the machine and maybe ResMed itself...as to that serial number being tied to a certain person...there is probably something somewhere to tie the two but as for being hacked....there's really nothing worthwhile on the machine itself. There is zero personally identifiable information on the machine itself.

There's really nothing on the machine that will make money for anyone.
Now is there someone somewhere just changing settings for the fun of it??? Unlikely but not impossible but they would need the serial number and understand what they are doing....which begs the question "why bother".
Even if someone can get your machine data...what are they going to do with it?

All this fear about someone stealing data off the machine is a bit paranoid IMHO. Even if someone can get the data off the machine...why and what are they going to do with it and most hacking is done to make money.

Now someone hacking into the DME or ResMed and getting the actual name of so and so person tied to so and so serial number machine and any personal information stored there.....that would scare me more.

But information off the machine itself....nothing there really worth stealing.

Not to mention I am not in any way tied to the serial number of this machine as I bought it used. If it was my main machine I would have no doubts as to it being my DME because they are the WORST but as this is my back up machine which only gets used a few times a year when I travel. I think this is the longest I've used it at one time. Over 4 weeks and counting. (Usually I only use it for a week at most) The first time it switched it to S mode I figured it was a fluke, but when it happened a second time to the S mode setting and I woke up choking again, thats when I decided to take the suggestion to put it on airplane mode. It hasn't happened since. I can't wait to get my laptop back so I can pull up Oscar and hopefully see what happened. I know its a lot less pressure than I use but I don't know if it was the exact same low pressure both times, but I think it was.

No this does not beg the question, whether they can be hacked easily.

Not knowing the explanation, should not cause people to draw the conclusion that it has been hacked. And yes, the remote configuration and downloading does have security features built in.

Heck, we haven't even determined that remote configuration is the cause. Though with what we know, that's not an unreasonable conclusion.

It might not be the cause at all. All I know is it hasn't happened since airplane mode was turned on. I really don't know what happened. Would a power hiccup cause something like that ? That is the only other thing I can think of (Well besides Pugsy's aliens and the weird lights we sometimes get over phoenix  ). I didn't notice the power going out in the hotel but we are in monsoon season here and power does sometimes flicker when a storm comes through.

Blame the nearest DME. If they have don't have the serial number--
they may have a workaround--even a means to ID and access nearby units.
Motivation: they "need" to sell somebody a new machine--
And nobody ever made THEM swear an oath to "do no harm"--obviously . . .
I have noticed that greedy, evil people observe no limitations;
and many use the net freely to make money. (Remember PORN?)
Use your internet OFF switch often--drive them batty.
